I had the idea of vegging my plant for 7 or 8 months, so it would be around 1 year old before i harvest it. i just want 1 single massive plant and flower it outside when the season comes. Do you think this can be manageable? i know i can control how big it can get before putting it into flower, i just want to know if this is a good idea or not.
They do it in Humboldt all the time. With the right genetics, 10lb a plant.

I grew out massive plants in just a regular grow season. Genetics will be a big factor.

Quite a few guerilla growers do that start indoor then move out however maybe not as long as that six months maybe is enough id say to produce a tree

My buddy has several Seed Plants alive, that, a couple, are 20+ years old.

Ak47-Seeds sprouted in 2001. From seeds from 1995.
Sensi Seeds NL5-2002
Willie Nelson-2006
Barney Farm G13 x Haze-2010
Mr Nice SSH-2010
2003-AK47 X NL5

ALL, of these came from seeds, and have NEVER been flowered. Only the clones, have been flowered.
He also has a MALE-NL5, from 2001.

They are kept under 2x 1000w Hortilux Blue. Promix BX- 10 Gallon containers.
In the summer, they are taken outside from Mid April-1st week of July. Also Prune the Roots, every 4-6 months.
They are kept in 18 hours light. Clones/vegging plants are 24/7. Every 3 days, lights out for 4 hours.
Both
Food
High Nitrogen/Phosphorus Peruvian Seabird Guano
Azomite
Green Sand
Kelp
Oyster Shells
Worm Castings
Crab Meal
Biochar
Calcitic/Dolomitic Lime
Potassium Sulfate

I'm stunned to hear that, but I'll trust you're not making it up. LOL absurd how much trouble I've given myself over the years over that bit of wrong information.
Nah I don't think jimi would do that if he says they got it I inclined to believe him

Its bad info to tell someone a seed plant will only live a year.
Consider this.
Some plants in South East Asia, will live for several years, in the wild. Think of the stress of vegging, flowering, vegging flowering a few times does, and they still live, with no human intervention. And they are seed plants.

For long term health of a plant, one must keep them under good light. Soil must be spot on. Good air exchange. Give them sunlight, when possible. Prune roots at certain intervals. Keep them as stress free, as possible.

One has to stay on top of the plants, to keep them healthy, long term. Most just dont have the experience, resort to unsubstantiated, experimentation, listen to bullshit on the internet, from unreliable sources., and end up with dead plants.

Its not rocket science to keep plants alive for decades, but one must abide by certain guidelines, to keep them healthy. Any deviation from optimal, and they will suffer.

Id also add, the person that gave smotts the advice, probably meant an outside plant has a viable life of a year. Which is 95% TRUE, WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS.
Probably 99% of all plants will die outside, with in year, or less, if left to nature.

BUT, one could also dig this plant up, if its outside, put it under a light, and keep it alive, for decades, if it will reveg.
