Question About Aquarium Waste Water...

Hi,
I keep large Piranha that create incredible amounts of waste. I'm wondering if all the crap I siphon out would have good or ill effects on my plants.
I have 10 females that just started flowering about a week ago. 5 are in soil and 5 in 2 liter hempy buckets. I figure it would be great during the vegatation cycle but I'm now into flowering.

Also, a rather ignorant question. When a strain matures at, say 8 weeks. Is that 8 weeks from the time you switch the lights or at the first sign of flower formation.


Any help is greatly appreciated.

well it all depends on the ph of water and what strain your growing.. is the strain easy to grow or a harder strain to grow... plus what light are u using

I have no idea of the origins of the strain. I picked it out of a sack of good local bud. I keep my PH around 7.0 but could lower it after removing it from the aquarium. I'm using a 400 watt HPS in an area about 2.5x3.5.

Also, what I'm speaking of isn't the clear water siphoned off the top. This is sucked out of the gravel and filters and is mostly solid wastes.

i would have to say no... i used to use the clear water off the top but the stuff in the rocks is food plus fish poo so if i where u no.. dont do it its not safe i would say

Thanks! I was kind of figuring there'd be loads of harmful bactaria.

In regards to the question of flowering time, I don't think I was clear.
I'm not concerned with how long the entire flowering cycle will take. What I'm wondering is this. Say a White Widow plant matures at 8 weeks. I know that's not a precise time frame meaning 8 weeks on the hour but do you count from the day you cut back to a 12/12 until finish or from the day of first flower formation until finish.

I know it's a dumb question and am still unsure if I'm making sense.

That fish waste will be nothing but beneficial to your plants lots of good nutes... As far as your question about flowering from the time you start seeing bud formation.. BTW there are no dumb questions..

Thanks man! I'll have to set aside one plant and feed with the fish waste to compare to the rest.

I figured it was from flower formation but wasn't sure. I was getting a bit nervous as this is the 4th week from cutting the lights and the buds are just now forming. I was trying to figure how my 1/4'' buds were going to turn into 20'' colas in 4-6 weeks.

I'll set one test plant aside and let you all know the outcome.

I've been reading extensively about the potential of aquaponics and it's pretty encouraging. I, personally am not concerned about 100% organics but I figure since I dump an average of 80-100 gallons of aquarium water down the drain I may as well use it to feed my favorite plants.

I made up a batch of some pretty funky waste water and added some molasses and and am anxious to start using it. I know I had outdoor plants that I dumped waste water on and they loved it. I'm interested in trying this doing hempy buckets and aeroponicly. I don't know if it'll work but I suppose that's how new things are learned, by just trying them.

I would think this would be very interesting to medicinal growers who demand 100% organics yet want to do hydroponics.

i am into my first grow in my selfmade stealth dresser........about 6 weeks ago i cleaned my tank and kept some of it in a jar( very stinky ).....lol.....hold ur nose when you open it.........but anyway i put a little bit in like once a week

most people think the flower weeks start at the first day of 12/12, but its from when you first see pistils(hairs)

The fish waste brew turned out alright. A saw very good results in soil and so-so results in 2 liter hempy buckets.

I used several different fertilizers and the fish waste was nearly as good as the FF and the others.

i agree with del here, for the most part. my only concern would be that its a pirhanna tank not a "community" fish tank. im guessing your feeding live fish or some type of meat. i just worry about the flesh i dont know whether or not that would be good. not saying it wouldnt be good for it but it would make me nervous about using it as opposed to fish waste that was from flake fed fish or something. couldnt the flesh rot out and grow harmful bacteria?

Virtually all common fish flakes are derived from meat. I feed mine cut fillets, shrimp, flakes, veggies and about anything else I can get them to eat. I try to replicate their natural diet as best I can.

I've toyed with this waste water and add micro, grow and bloom to it. It's working wonders during growth. My buddy started another batch of White Widow and they seem to love it!

yea i didnt doubt too much that the flake fed fish waste would be beneficial. i understand that most flake food is derived from meat but its usually been freeze dried or dehydrated its not like its raw flesh you know what i mean? i think it would be good for the plant as long as it didnt create fungus or harmful bacteria. or maggots or some shit like that. only one way to know for sure, try it. i personally would be a little worried but i would still try it. just keep an eye out for fungus and shit
