Question about cuttin small buds from flowering plants.

FYI: This is gonna be my 1st real harvest. My only other one didn't yield very much. If you're gonna criticize, I'm not trying to hear it. Its why I'm posting in Newbie Central.

Also, It was never my intention to allow my auto's to get so big. But they didn't auto flower under 24hr and I kinda forgot about em. So some are 4 feet tall.

I'm thinking of cutting off all of the popcorn buds on the lower 50% of ALL my plants(Except Bubba Kush).
I was hoping that doing this will increase my bud size on the top buds. Good Idea or bad? If its bad tell me what to do then. Or maybe I'll do half and half to see what the difference is...?



AK-48- 45 days flowering left or less. CORRECTION: I could harvest as early as 40 days

Bubbalicious- 45(ish maybe another couple weeks )

Sour Cream and Bubba kush have another couple months

its not worth taking any buds off until the trichomes are in their physco-active component. you can easily take off buds and smoke them. itll taste like shit, and wont get you high. do what you want, its not worth it though really. go buy some to hold you off.

Oh i'm getting an O today. I'm not overly impatient when it comes to my weed. They look very pretty. All of my plants have started showing crystals.

Yes, I was planning on smoking or cooking with the popcorn buds but my reason for wanting them was not the aforementioned. The plants are very crowded and I don't think enough light penetrates to the lower stuff. I was thinking that it will help increase my bud size?

yes it should. i always cut the lower branches off mine. it results in bigger main cola's. popcorn buds arent worth anything. when i plant outdoors the bottom 6"-10" of my plants are bare. completely trimmed. it pays off when you harvest those giant main cola's

When should you start trimming the bottom branches? Right now my girls are just starting to flower and I've noticed nearly all of it is toward the top. Should I trim the the bottoms now or wait until I start to see actual buds?

try to get them cut within the first week of flowering. i strip mine up about 6 nodes as they go into the flowering area. i have stripped plants up to 4 weeks of flowering without negative results though. once they get beyond that i think its pointless as the plant has already pushed the energy your trying to misderect to the top into those bottom buds.

I would like to thank everyone for their imput! I'm going to take 2 AK-48(leaving 3), 2 Bubbalicous(leaving 2) and my one Sour Cream and do what you did. Although I may go more like 10 nodes from the top on a the BL.

if you have a little extra cash sitting around use all of them cuttings and turn them into clones. you can set up a nice cloning veg area for right around 200$.

Dude, believe me when I say I would if I had the extra cash, but I just spent another 300 on 2 90 watt LED ufo's from HTG to add to my room. I'm hoping that they'll get me high. or at least some of them will. Maybe I'll post some pics later.

Just updating a little....I finally got around to smoking some of those buds I took off the bottoms of 3 of the plants. I also took 3 stalks off of one with some bigger buds, just to see. By now they are very dry. The smoke of the 3 buds is definitively a little harsh. but not anymore than the commercial I smoke.Very pretty green when ground up. Lots o crystals. Smoked half a small joint and it got me high. Much better quality than some swag. I know its immature bud. I only plan to taste a few more times. I know, I know, why? Because its mine!!!!Muahahahahaha.
