question about flowering times

if a strain states that it flowers in 8-9 weeks does that then mean 8-9 weeks from when u put it on 12/12 or 8-9 weeks from when u see the first pistels?

i have always been told that it is from the switch to 12/12, not first sign of flowers.

this could get messy

dont listen to flowering times, thats only when grown in optimum conditions, i have seen some 8-9 weeks go for 13 or 14 weeks...

Well, maybe you should wait till the plant is sexually mature before switching - that is when it has "alternating" nodes instead of "opposite" nodes.

The times are a guide, and there is always an exception to the rule as the growing conditions definitely affect the flowering time.

I have a plant grown from seed that has pistils at 5 weeks of age and I haven't switched to 12/12 yet ... I certainly shouldn't start counting the flowering period yet, although I wish I could as it is a 9 to 11 week flowerer.

well ive grown this strain before and it got quite tall when i give it 2 weeks veg so thought maybe flower it bit earlier this time :-s
these are indicas so hope these wont go on for 12-13 weeks! lol

given that you havent switched yet I would agree with you, I meant in the context of switching to 12/12 before you have any sex indications, if you wait till you have pistils and then switch, yes, that would be the start of flowering

Agreed... Even when the plants become a semetrical (alternating nodes) it can take a few weeks to show sex.. 12/12 doesnt start flowering times its when the pistols show the acception is as bob mentioned.
