Question about fluffy/crappy buds

Why are buds light, airy, and taste terrible/harsh when smoking?

first grow purple kush
600w hps hydro drip
gh nutes, no extras.
1 week veg 7 weeks flower then 1 week flush ph tapwater
hang dry upside down 5 days, then jarred. been 3 months in jars, burping daily for first week, then every so often

second grow: purple kush
1000w hps flood and drain, hydroton
gh nutes, kool bloom for one week
2 weeks veg(from cutting) 7weeks flower 2 weeks flush ph'd tap water

same airy light buds, has not been smoked yet,

both grows did not smell like bud at all throughout flowering or drying/curing

hydro store suggested gh nutes are very high in salt, i have noticed white salty buildup on some of the hydroton, so i bought grotek final flush blueberry(to make it more appealing)

could it be the final product is part leaves? being so airy, the leaves are all covered with trichs close to the bud, so when trimmed, some leaf is left in there.

is this due to error on growers part, or could it be the strain? mothers being used?

i use 1000w's and gh nutes and cant grow a airy bud. definetly not nutes or lights, above post is my best guess as well. where was the seeds/clones purchased, im always weary of people saying they have purple kush, sour d and all the other clone only strains to be true (although some companies have re-creating a few of them so they are around).

you probably tried to flower in above 80* temps during your dark period of flower.... you actually need to be in the 70s....

to high of temps durin your flowering process.... produces airy fluffy buds insted of hard nugs

try letting them go for at least the full 8 weeks of flowering...if not 8.5-9 weeks man. Genetics could play a role and probably are, but if you flower for that additional week to two weeks, you will see a difference.

Buds are airy when they aren't finished. GH nutes are made of the same chemicals that all hydroponics nutrients are made from.

The lack of density looks to be because of high heat issues. In your pictures you can see the fan leave edges curling up trying to vent heat. If you lowered your temps to around 70 degrees or implemented a co2 program I do believe you will have much better luck. BTW what are your temps like? Day? Night? and what is your humidity at?

them thangs are heat stressed like a mutha fucka

im not gonna pretend like i know that THAT is the reason they are fluffy and unsmelly.. but... your plants ARE heat stressed..so thats something to consider

lights on temps are around 75-80
lights off 70
humidity is 49-53%

a month ago there was a bit of a heat wave, ac tripped on high condensate a couple times,
using cool tubes, lights are about 12+" away

sounds dumb but maybe throw a clone in some soil and grow it out and see if the taste/smell is any different. Could be used as kind of a control test i guess.

I'd suggest moving the lights up. You can have the lights up to around 21inch. 12 inches is pretty close, especially if you're having heat problems.

75-80 really aint that bad.
