Question about fox farm trio using Aerogarden bounty elite.

I bought the aerogarden bounty elite, this will be my first hydro grow. So I went with the fox farm trio for hydroponics,and I'm not really sure how to use it. Does any one have a schedule that they go by that is using the aerogarden bounty that they could share? I'm on day 4, sprout is up. I don't have any nutrients in the water right now. I have read to wait 2 weeks before adding any.

Recently joined RIU, been looking through the various threads on AG - just curious how did you get on with your grow in the Bounty?

It did well after a lot of trial and error. Had issues with water temps and oxygen in water. I had to modify the reservoir. By adding a couple of nipples on the side. I made a homemade water chiller. With temperature control. I bought a 4 port air pump and two good size air stones. I ran two lines from air pump into one air stone. Also ran extra grow light. Once plant started to bush out the areogarden lighting not efficiency enough. I was able to grow two plants max in it. But would recommend only doing one. Also made a drain on the bottom of reservoir, as changing water once plant gets big is hard to do.

But big question is would I buy this AG again if I had known all the trial and errors? Yes. The digital board with the pump and lighting cycles that comes with this is awesome.

Water chiller is a must have with this system. I was able to make a chiller from spare pc parts.

Great to hear back from you!

Really appreciate hearing all about your adventures with the AG - from the sounds of it you’re clearly quite the handyman to have made the slight modifications you added. Well done!

My AG Bounty arrived yesterday, I’m bloody itching to get started but have to wait as I’m still getting together everything I’m going to need. You raise some interesting points about the lighting, reservoir heat & number of plants to do. For now I’m not planning on adding any additional lighting, I’ve ordered an AG Mylar surround that should help a bit, also on the way is a pump & a couple of air stones. Oh, and a 6” clip on fan. I’m going to cover the top of the reservoir to help reflect light & to try and keep it cool. No idea what to use, can you recommend anything that you think may be suitable. Good job you mentioned the number of plants, really wanted to 2 different auto grows but I’ll go with what you suggest and go just for the 1. Where possible I’ve tried not to get too carried away with this little hobby - even though the cost kind of starts mounting up.

I reckon I’ll get started the first week of July. I’ll try & post some pics so you can see my progress. How many grows have you done. Did it become a regular thing or did you get bored. You got any pics?

Nearly finished buying everything I need, have decided to add more lights after all. I’m thinking of 2 36w led Grow Lights which I’ll attach to a bulb housing and then fit to a photo light stand. The extra light will benefit my grow I think. Also, was going to keep the AG unit on the floor, now I’m getting a bench - this will help when I want to siphon off the water for Rez water changes

It’s getting to be a little expensive now, even with an AG if you want to grow good quality buds it’s sensible to have this initial outlay. The final thing to think about is odor control, I’ll only be doing 1 plant at a time but really trying to avoid my apartment reeking like a weed factory - I guess I probably don’t have to think about that until the flowering stage. If I’ve missed anything please feel free to chip in

Yes the money definitely accumulates trying get it right.
I’ll post some pictures of the water chiller I made. I would have to say it is by far the most important to be successful with AG.
I grew under my staircase. I did a total of 8 plants. With 3 being complete failures. Root rot was the cause and had to fight it every time until I made the chiller. I even ran ductwork understairs to try and help with heat.

To cover the top of lid I made a Mylar cover as well.
Also you need TDS,and PH meter. Check your water everyday, write down your results. You be surprise how bad things can get over night. Also not sure what type of water you plan on using but I would recommend buying one of those Zero water filter pitchers. Adjust the PH of water, filter check ph again adjust if needed filter it again.
Doing this you can get your Ph correct and have 0 TDS add nutrients then recheck. Make ph slightly higher or lower once you find out how your nutrients effects water. I found making 4 gallons of filter water prepared worked best for convenients of being prepared. Once plant gets big, it will drink about half a gallon a day. So you will see why you want a few gallons made up. And if you smell anything funky in your water, change it. Recommend Hydro-Guard. Also once plant gets going good run pump 24/7 and your air stones.

As far as smell goes. I made a charcoal filter for the room but still had smell. So I bought Air pure 50.

Put it in room outside of your plant. I tried using it in the room with plant and it started to die. Ozone not good for plants.

Hey man. Thanks for the update/advice = appreciated

TDS & PH pens are at the ready, they were the first items added to my arsenal. Earlier today I ordered some Mylar tape, I’m going to get one of those reflective car window shields & re-purpose it as covering for my rez & top part where the pods go. As far as water goes, I plan on using tap water ( left 24hr to get rid of any chlorine ) then PH it to the magic 5.8. As a back up I’m also adding one of those gallon AG aerovior units, when I’m away for the odd night I shouldn’t have to worry about the babies too much. In addition to this I’ll also have extra PH water in reserve too.

I’m in an apartment so space is fairly limited, now with the bench & tripod I really don’t want to add anything else now - weird how it’s kind of snowballed! I think I’ve covered nearly every angle. About the smell, will even one plant give off a stronger enough stench to fill the apartment? I did a few searches today and found an air freshener called ONA - amazing reviews everywhere. Lots of people say not advisable to actually have it in your grow room itself as may affect your buds. I’ve ordered a few to dot around the apartment.

I found a really cool site about growing weed in an AG called aeroweed, It covers everything about growing using an AG... nice find.
