question about foxtailing

Are you super sure it's foxtailing? Note the strange curled leaves close to the bud, and notice how the stem is growing. Honestly the first thing I thought when I saw your pictures was, that plants re-vegging.
I've never really had much of any foxtailing problems, but I have re-veg'd many plants. What's your lighting like? Is it in a tent? Is the area totally sealed off from outside light? Is your dark time during the daylight hours?

Check your temps and / or feed . These are some of the factors for foxtailing. Sativa dominate strains can throw this trait too.
But usually it is a sign that calyx stacking ( foxtails ) are due to high temps - resulting in airy buds if one is not careful.

This late in the game , it may be a bit too late. Look up “ finger buds “.

thats exactly what i was thanking but im growing a auto flower. my light schedule WAS 20/4 but these plants are taking forever so i flipped it to 18/6 to try to mature the buds faster. and yes my grow room is totally sealed off from outside light and dark time is at night.

temps go up too 77 thats as high as it might run. the strain is auto blackberry kush. its a indica dominate strain. lol i wouldnt have a problem with it if the calyx's were actually stacking

If it's an auto than yeah I'd agree it's foxtailing. I'd just try to make sure it doesn't get worse. Good luck.

I think that is just slowing them down with less light, kind of the opposite of what you wanted. I wouldn't worry too much about this, your temps are fine and the bud looks frosty. Perhaps a bit under fed but autos can be bitchy so wouldn't sweat that either. :bigjoint:

Almost every auto I've ever grown foxtailed to some extent. Wasn't environmental either, as I never have that issue with photos.
im going to try a few more auto strains if this crap keeps happening then i will forsure give photos a try. btw love the pic of the devil from tenacious d thats awesome!

Just had some foxtails on a couple larger buds closer to the light. Thought at first is was the strain (sativa) but the proof was it didn’t happen until the last 2-3 weeks. Sometimes I think fox’s can herm? Never had it happen but I’ve heard they can. Not positive. So keep an eye on that too.
The buds themselves that fox tailed are still very smokable so don’t give up. Usually separate them for joints/blunts.
Try bending /tying the cola thats fox -tailing down away from the light a few inches. May just be genetic as well.

From experience, the biggest cause of foxtailing I've seen is heat and light stress.

People like to cop-out and blame genetics for their mistakes too much in regards to foxtailing imo.

My summer photo grow that i was constantly battling heat did not foxtail. Winter grows of autoflowers where heat was never an issue always foxtailed.

Very interesting. Were your plants stressed?

I mean, obviously foxtailing does occur some in genetics. But from what I've seen around here most of the roughest looking plants are the ones foxtailing. I don't think that is genetics.

No they were actually quite healthy throughout the entire grow. For autos, I would say 75% had some amount of fox tail and 25% had moderate foxtail. One or two were really bad. None of my photos foxtailed and they were stressed by heat and overwatering due to a medium that held way to much water.

Edit: i lied. One photo had very minor foxtailing but the buds were like baseball bats with just a few little foxtails coming out.
