Question about Germination???

I have seen people germinate in paper towel, but I just drop a seed straight into soil. I have also seen people germinate veggies on heat pads to increase chance of germination. However, I have never used a heat pad with Mary Jane beans. Would Mary Jane seeds have an even better germination probability on a heat pad, like vegetable and herb seeds?

I experimented with a low end heat pad a long time ago and had a terrible germ rate. Have heard the cheap ones can run a little too hot and that would be consistent with my experience. I think you are better off if germing in soil to find a place to put them that is in the 70-72F range.

idk about increased chance of probability but heat does make them pop faster by a few days. i use it. and i don't use paper towels. soil-bottom heat-moisture...it works every time.

fill a cup with 250 ml of tap water and add 5ml of H2O2 (walmart brand). cover the cup with a paper towel and put it in a warm dark place. they usually pop in 24 to 72 hours

drop seeds into water until the sink. you might have to shake the glass after 24 hours air trapped around the seed. so tip the glass seeds will sink them plant them into soil or grow cubes or what ever you like keep temps over 65 to 75 f. and wait 2 to 5 days they will sprout . some take up to 2 weeks.

for got to say a dark place Is a must . I did the paper towel trick before . glass of water worked better for me.

put a wet folder up paper towel into a ziplock bag, put your seeds on the paper towel, put in a dark place and call it a day.

Heat speeds things up a bit its true--the heated propagators work fine, a 3 inch pot with the seed just below the surface in the propagator, then put some clingfilm over the top of the pot--this keeps things humid--put in a dark place or drape a towel over the glass cover of the propagator, and usually pops withing 3 days---IMHO the paper towel method is even better, damp paper towel with seeds within--put in small sealed Tupperware dish to seal in moisture--put dish into propagator but held up 1 inch above the propagator base--cover with towel---have good success rate-------------but popping them in soil works as well--a little heat , humidity and darkness are really all that's required---good luck

I just put seeds into wet paper towels between 2 plates, water them with straight water, and in 1-2 days they pop and have taps coming out.

I also use a heat mat, controlled by a thermostat control, set between 70 and 75 degrees F. After taps shoot out, they go into small cups on the heat mat under 24 hr light till i see green :)

I do something called direct sowing... No fuss no muss... I use 5 gallon dwc, w/hydroton, fill 5 inch net pot half way, throw in seeds, fill water in bucket so that when you stick an air pump and stone in the bucket the bubbling of the water keeps the hydroton moist enough for germination.

when sprouts pop, keep adding hydroton to the net pot, or you will end up with algae in the bucket. If you don't cover up the holes well enough.

i use the hid as my Heat... Running the light over bare buckets for a few days or so....

i hate handling seeds after they've germinated as it gives a chance of fucking up the tap root.
