question about heat

hey i started my grow 3 days ago and i had my 8 lamp t5 h0 like 3-4 inches away from the just planted seedlings. The ready grow bark dryed up quickly with the light so close so i was forced to water multiple times a day. They shrivled up and im still watering them but im pretty sure they're dead. How high above my plants should my light be, its in a gl 60 tent. thanks for any help. i replanted new seeds and raised the lights about a foot

try having a fan blowing across the lamps to get the heat off the plants. and ill start from 6" if it seems like less move it down a notch until it looks like they aren't getting burned.

Yeah, it sounds like you already learned from what happened. You need to work on moving the light back so that the little plants can grow without drying up.

The smaller plants have a harder time rebounding from the stresses of too much light and heat. They just don't have the root system.

Lesson learned. It happens.

good luck on the next round.....

Alright i got a little fan blowing on the lamps and i tried it from 6 " but in 5 or 6 hours the soaking ready grow cube would be bone dry the new seedlings havnt sprouted yet so should i keep it like a foot off or bring it down to 6" and water them more and definitely, shit happens!

You really need to control the growing environment with regards to different temps for day and night and keep your humidity levels in check.
Do you have an extraction system set up ??.

As for testing the heat. Put your hand just above the top leaves (canopy) and if you hand feels the heat then your lamp is to close. You want to be able to keep your hand on the canopy for a while and just feel a slight warmth and you will soon be used to judging your light heights.
(good luck).

Raise the lamp until they sprout and dont let them get to wet until they sprout.

Is this hydro ??????
You may have killed the seeds due to excessive watering.

I grow start to finish with a T5 and I keep my light about an inch from my tops with no problems.

if i keep my lights any lower then like 2 feet they dry out fast, im running an 8 lamp t5 h0 setup in a gl 60 venting with a 4" 170cfm fan at the top of the tent pulling out the wall with 2" passive intake at the bottom of the tent
