Question about hole saw... Drilling holes

So I'm cutting a few 3.5" holes in my floor on Sunday so I can pull cool air into my room from my basement ... I went out and bought a hole saw and bit today and when I attached it to my craftsman 19v drill as soon as it hits my floor it just stops spinning instantly... I mean I'm just cutting through wood floor and prob backer board under it... Any recommendations on a better drill... Also I thought of renting a core drill from Home Depot any one have experience renting from them? I know you can rent for 4 hours do you need a high limit credit card? And how much would it cost

Either upgrade to a quality Dewalt XRP ($140) or 20v Lithium ($220) or just get a 7.5 or 8amp corded drill of any decent brand ($30-50.)

rotate the drill in a small circle while drilling your hole. It helps the hole saw bit from binding up. Your drill is fine.

It could be that your pilot bit in your hole saw has penetrated thru the floor and is no longer able to help pull the bit anymore..... Which means it's all up to you to put enough downward force to allow the holesaw to continue cutting but not enough to stop it from turning.......I think you can still use your set up it just may take a while.......you also need to be sure your not cutting into a floor joist. Remove any debris from the hole you've already cut......it could be clogging up your holesaw.

Don't put much pressure on it, run it at high rpm, rock it a little. I use a 14V and it goes through a 2x6 with a 3" hole saw no prob. You're not hitting a hidden nail are you? I wiped a 2" hole saw that way..you could drill a circle pattern with something like a 3/8 drill bit and then knock the slug out.

Hmmm thanks for all the advise but I think it is the drill it's my friends that I borrowed and he said its old and has a shitty battery. Prob that and user error I have 1.5 inch pit that I used and it went rifht through the floor no problem so I just cut another hole over lapping it and wallah!!! Problem solved the hole doesn't need to be perfect it's just so such air up from the basement via a little 4" fan that sits right on top of the hole and just blows the air straight up...

I hate Dewalt. I used to sell power tools. Dewalt (Black & Decker) bought their way into the market with NASCAR and over-the-top trade shows. I went to these shows and sold their product for years. I'd take Makita, Milwaukee, Hitachi, Porter-Cable anyday

I'm a Milwaukee fan all the way. My sawzall has cut apart at least a dozen vehicles over the last 15 yrs and keeps on going. I can't knock Dewalt though, we bought a 14V drill just to build our garage( metal building..hundreds, if not thousands, of sheet metal screws), it made it through that, although it was defiantly tired when we were done. I took it back to Home Depot, told them it was making a funny smell and got a brand new one under warranty..that's been kicking for 5+ yrs now..

A cheap corded drill will be fine. Cordless drills are generally garbage for using hole saws unless you get at least a 19.2 volt.
