Hello evry1. i was wondering if its possible to make a homeade light mover, and is it possible to build one for cheap?. The ones i see online are over 200$. I m just wondering if anyone has ever tried to make there own and was it hard?. Looks like it might be ez to make but i just wanted some opinions before i started to really really look into it.

i think that with a light mover costing less than a new light system most people just buy it rather than trying to DIY it.

By the time you price everything to make one (a motor is quite expensive) it probably isnt worth it.

I have a light mover, and although I like using it, I think it'd be really difficult to build one that'd work well, and last. It's definitely not an impossible task, but it'd require alot of parts, a strong motor, gear reduction, precision fit, etc..... and alot of ambition. $200 seems like alot of money to spend on one, but having seen my own, it was well worth the cash, because it's so well built. It'd be tough to replicate, to say the least.

ok im sold. thanks guys!

@jawbrodt thnx for your reply. i think i will go ahead and just buy one. I only have one 600 wattlight, and my grow area just happens to be 3'x8'. So do you think i should get a 4 foot rail or 7 foot? im thinking 4 foot would be perfect for my grow room now but might be too small in the future when my grow room is ENORMOUSE xD

^If you're planning on using the whole 8' length of growspace, you better go with the 7' rail. If you went with the 4' rail, placed directly in the center, you'd have 2' space on each end. Yes, it'd work, because the light will cover that area, but'd be more effective if it were able to swing further, each direction. Go big, you won't regret it, later on.

Well said sir. I really appreciate it man. After i get the rail put in i will only lack one more thing to make my room complete! CO2. I tried the diy yeast and sugar crap i wish i didnt. Smells horible AND i basically introduced a little mold to the room, but thats neither here nor there. Thnx again !
