question about lumens....

assuming i used a grow room that was enough for a 600watt bulb, but instead went with a 1000watt bulb ( i saw the diagram about watt= how much space it covers) and have to ask, would a plant that was placed in a room that 600watts could cover, but instead used a 1000watt light, yield more vs the 600 watt used in the same room? my grow space is ideal for 600 watts, but i feel i could really get a better yield with a 1000w light. is this a correct assumption?

1000 = 5x5 area 600 = 4x4 area.. I would go with the 1000 cause your always gonna wanna grow more

More light = better yield if all other variables are the same. This is ALWAYS the rule. What you need to consider is whether or not the increase in yield is worth the extra energy cost. Chances are you would be better off adding a second room with a 400w light than adding 400w more light into the same room.

Fuck lumen/lux and rent a PAR meter if you're going to be doing any testing.

well the thread reads= "question about lumens" so it was not narrowley specific, but the site i gave would answer his question. to dismiss the site outright i believe would be erroneous, it's better to err on the side of caution. im just trying to help the fellow east-coaster out. nobody was replying.....so i did.
moreover, he was speaking of wattage but i was not sure if he's adding up cfl's or hids. actually that site by ceestyle is very scientific-like in it's approach. the guy demonstartes the distribution of light w/ hid's and cfl's. so it is VERY RELEVANT to what he was posting. and if i follow ur premise= THEN he def. should read that site.

best wishes & happy growing......................joey th_TheDarkKnight854926.jpg

to answer your question directly NO. a 1000w bulb will not nessesarily yeild more then a 600w in the same space with the same # of plants. many many many growers will not use 1000w lights period. a plant can only absorbe so much light. this is out of the nov 2011 high times under an artical called 21 growroom tips and tricks from the pros page 50 subtitle light right. "indoor gardens requier a minimum of 33 watts per square foot -so for example a standard 4x8 tray (32 square feet) and two 1000w hps lights would achieve 62.5 watts per square footthereby doubling the recomended amount of watts". more over to my point a 600w lamp can be kept closer to your ladys because it will generate less heat. due to the fact that its closer youll get better development of the lower branches of the plants via the fact of better light penitration. also you will save on power costs and reduce risk of hot spots temp. issues and most critical fire danger. a new trend is also to use one 600w hps and one 600w MH in your flower room the mixture of spectrum keeps plants vigerous and happy. happy plants make happy smoke. good luck my friend...sorry about MR joey 555 this web fourm has realy gone down tha shitter buddy..hey jo just answer the fuckin question enuff with the up your own ass bullshit... you know what you get out of being a dick?.. a perverted sence of self worth. keepin it realy son dont hate.

first off i beg to differ how close a light to the plant affects things wwell to rain on your parade at 12" to 15 " height there pretty much same amount of lumens now if you compare a 600 to a 1000 being more effiecient then yes a 600 will do
then on other side of the spectrum you run a 1000 watt must i say 140,000 lumens ??? compared to a 88,000 600 :))
was just over @ a friends place he is running 5 600 watters we started at same time
i run 5 1000 watters and pics says it all :)) today is day 30 i think and plants are approx 50" tall

PS: i run my lights approx 13 " from my plants open ended

@ swagg...or whatever u'd like to be called. "just answer the fuckin question" ? how do u expect me to sum up such a huge thread? there is a lot of good information on there. Just b/c High Times says so....doesn't make it BIBLICAL. yes it helps, and im sure they r right but did u ever think the guy has his own mind. he don't have to take my suggestion, but it's another avenue to explore "SON". AND keep it in perspective; i was merely suggesting a thread on this site MR. piss & vinegar, not telling him what to do. i'm just sorry this guy has to endures ur act: a wanna-be, intellectual juggernaught of growing- which we all here know u r not. ur attitude sucks. i feel like im reprimanding my daughter, but ur behavior is child-like. u probally don't get out much, and the only interface ur ok w/ is via the net. b/c i have a suspicion that ur socially inept.

JERSEY: sorry man, i was just trying to help, b/c i seen u were new and u had a good question, an important 1. i will no longer allow ur thread to be a springboard for others to showcase thier EGOS. (b/c i will no longer respond to them) BEST WISHES.............JOEY
