question about rain water

hey lastnight i was putting my bucket outside to catch rain water that falls off of a galvanized tin roof. i was wonder if this would make the water alkaline and if i should water with it or not. i have no way to check my soil ph. it seems to not bother my plant, it still looks healthy. but i have stopped fertilizing it now i am harvesting in 5-10 days. i dont want the soil to become to alkaline since i'm not putting nutes in to lower the ph

man you can buy a water testing ph kit for 7 or 10 dollars, it shold be fine, but i would let the water sit outside for a day, but youll be flushing your plants right since your about to harvest???so be careful the water is clean, what have you been using to water. i got my first grow goin whatcha think?

i've been watering with the rain off the tin roof, but since i've stopped adding nutes i dont want the soil to become to alkaline from the water, and yes i flushed it on the 18th

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's not like the water just "sits" up on your roof, it runs off quickly. The only thing I would suggest is that if it hasn't rained in awhile, let it rain for about a half hour before putting your collection bucket out. Less crud collected from what landed on your roof during a dry spell. My biggest issue is the tar from my roof tiles - if it's been hot and dry for awhile (not an issue during winter months - but during summer), I will notice a distinct tar-like coloration of the water, and an oily film on top. If I wait until the rain washes the roof somewhat before I place out the collection buckets, it's just fine.

so if i have some peat moss mix that may be acidic, can i flush it a couple of times with rain water to rise the PH before i plant some geminated seed?

Ah screw it! IF, it did, it would supplement zinc to ur water. Which ur plant needs anyway. Ive heard of people adding galvanized nails into their soil. Ur aight, i use rainwater off my shed roof, that i know aint the cleanest.1

all i use is rain water.i have a 10 gal bucket filled with 6 gal sand, i set the sand bucket on top of my 55 gal. drum. i cut a hole in the top of the drum so sand bucket fits snug inside top of drum, the whole set up sits under down spout. i have my pump set up inside the drum and when i push the button....whaaa-laaa clean filtered rain water and plenty of it................

thats a kool thought, i know that they used to put sand around the old time wells. the water drained through the sand for a good ways. it scrubs out all the bigger particals but leaves the minerals. they also use carbon to filter water at a water refinery. but scrubbing it like that doesn't take out the bateria, thats why they add chlorine to the faucet water

but say i had some peat moss that is pretty old and was left outside for a long time. peat moss breaks down and becomes really acidic. what if it had a low ph say around 5. can i run rain water through it in a pot for a week or so to raise the ph. or would i have to have a higher PHd solution to raise it any.
or say that i put way to much vitalime into the soil and it is ranging around 8 ph. can i run rain water through it for about a week or so to lower the ph, or do i have to have a lower PHd solution than rain water at 6.3 to lower it.

Ps, rainwater, at least where im from, is a perfect 6.3. I use it when its available. But I now use tap water as well. Ive read.https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/267989-uncle-bens-gardening-tweeks-pointers.html

i follow it now, and i wont switch back. Ph is towards the begining. Nutes are also talked about. Read it, u thank me later. Good luck, smoke well..
so if rain water is 6.3 then if i add a good veg nute, how much would it lower the ph? i did just buy some ph up though.
