Question about sifting for keif. (pillow case substitute?)

I tried to grab cheese cloth at the store, but no luck, no cheese cloth. Was wondering if I could improvise using a pillow case? I just wanna knock this out tonight, trim n popcorn buds waiting patently in my freezer, and whispering to me to make something with it. lol :-)

Are you using a pillow case as your sifter/mesh screen...? That wouldn't work I believe.. I've heard of people using a silk legging.

If your in no rush, go to your local art and crafts store like Michaels where you can get a silk screen either 110 or 220 micron and you can sift with much better.

Kind of wanted to get it done tonight, but the only place i can think of open is walmart, which may not even have it?

Yeah i was going to try and use it as the mesh screen/barrier between plant matter and the frozen microscopic bits of godliness. lol

Walmart would have paint strainer bags
1and 5gallon
Never tried them but it would work better
than a pillow case probably.

^ what he said...

I'm in almost the same predicament...
I have 2 large jars of dry sifted kief extracted using a 220µ(micron) bubble bag.

I need to refine it by removing plant matter, the stalks, husks, and leaf matter ...
In order for me to do this correctly...

First step is a nice long cure...I'm shooting for a year of total cure time (currently at about 6 months..)
Then, I plan on using dry sieving techniques to collect the cured resin heads.

I personally want a couple of dry sieving screens for this purpose.

If I were on your shoes...
I would get on E_ay or Am_zon and but yourself a 220µ bubble bag aka” work bag”
Seen them as cheap as 10$ per bag and as high as 30$...
You get what you pay for in this capacity..

Would you mind elaborating on how you would use a pillow case?
The fabric is woven very tight on most pillow cases, and would not allow anything to pass through.

Poke holes in the fabric?

That's what i was wondering, if the micro holes in the pillow case were capable of allowing the tricombs through, while preventing everything else.

I just looked online, and had the shit to make a ghetto jar thing for keif just laying around... So I'll use this for now, basically a glass jar Mason style only larger and much longer vertically, plastic lid, cut hole out of middle of lid, and siliconed in metal mesh from a kitchen strainer, I put two layers of screen encase the silicone does not hold up on one side or the other from the shaking it will go through. I know this will allow for higher yield / lower quality keif but I'm not picky lol, not only am i a light weight, but I also may bake with it. So I just said fuck it.

Best thing about the piece of shit i just made, is it's dual purpose. I can make QWISO in that shit too, after the keif sift, Ill just pour ISO in through the straining top, cover the top with something to keep the liquid in, shake, then tape a coffee filter on the outside and dump into a random glass dish. Two birds, one stone. :)

Back in the day I used to use button up polyester t-shirts for cwe....works good enough
I don't know if it would work for your purpose..just saying, they make alright filters

Not big enough holes for trichs to fall through..or pillow case

I've tried paint strainer bags and panty hose. The panty hose worked better than the paint bags. I ended up getting some SS 120 mesh and its been working well. For the dry ice method I got a 120 bubble bag and a 5gal bucket, works great. GL.

If the material is already sifted and in need of refining I don't think a cure would make much of a difference.. just run it.

Unless it's wet.. in which case.. not sure why it was run to begin with lol.

Lol..

I'm not sure where I picked that idea up...most likely from stoned reading...haha.

Yes, this is already sifted and has at least 6 months cure time, the aroma seems to get stronger each time I open the jar..., intense sweet fruity aroma with a fuel like undertone.

Fuck yeaaaaahh..thanks QK & DSW :)

I'll be cleaning some sift real soon...

Picked up a 124 LPI monofilament silkscreen tightly framed today...
Found it at hobby store on clearance for 10$...
@DSW
Will this single screen help a bit in cleaning some of the sift?
Obviously I'm a complete newb in the sift department..

I plan on stepping it up big when I get my garden back to life ...

This should at least help me gain some experience..

P.S.
I think I may have gotten the super long cure idea from Skunkman, but I believe he cured the entire plant(s) for a year before running it....
Lol

P.S.S
Approximately 3 oz of sift...give or take.

There is always silk sock. Fill up lightly your sock with trims, close up. Put sock in a medium size plastic Tupperware. Shake it good for 5 minutes. Open, scoop and press with a source of heat.
Do the whole shaking a few time, a little harder each time

Sirdabs.. it will def. help you clean it up a bit.. to what extent? Tough to say.. every strain is different and of course, no idea how much it's already been handled either.

Only one way to find out :) Might wanna grab something tighter as well for future tests. Maybe in the ~200 lpi range. Never hurts to have extras lying around.

Butane? You can clean up sift quite nicely with a little time. Or you can use certain teks and make very dabbable sift (see: super pure/quality) very fast, like under 30 seconds.

No need for chemicals, heh.
