Question About Size

I switched to 12/12 on May 9th, which today would mark the 9th day. I knew that I probably could have vegged these out longer, but I really wanted to get something into the flowering room and started as soon as possible. I'm sitting here looking at these two little ladies wondering how much their actually going to be stretching, or producing in total weight. I've had a couple of plants that I flowered on the smaller side and didn't get more than 2oz dried. I always feel like this when I introduce new plants into flowering. Do you guys feel like these, or rather mostly the do-si-dos, is going to stretch and fill in a bit more, or am I looking at another small runt that will hardly produce?

They're currently sitting on upside down crates to boost them up to the light a bit higher, which gives them 10-11 inches vertical boost, and puts the top of the canopy at 22-23 inches from the light fixture. We've got Bubble Chem (Purple FrostByte Cut), 13 inches in height on the left, and Do-Si-Dos (Norcal Cut), 12 inches in height on the right.

Size of flower or yield is dependent on strain. Environment will put it above or below what is common yield for your strain, depending how dialed is your environment, including light obviously.

Have you researched what's the average yield for those strain? If you know their yield then that's your benchmark whether your grow is up to par, below or above.

With my grow, by the second week of flip, I can tell if I'm gonna hit my yield expectation barring any incidents beyond my control.

I've tried looking up these specifics cuts, but I haven't found too much information on the two different strains. I seem to have my temps and humidity under control, and the nutes are switched out weekly, so I should be on track for some decent bud.

Whats the light youre using?

I think you should get about 8oz based on your light however you state you have a 4x4 tent but the girls seems to barely fill a 2x4 space.. next time id suggest you veg a little longer to fill more your canopy maybe 1 more topping and 1-2 weeks more of veg would have yield better.. based on what I see my guess is youll get 4-5oz..

On a side note maybe you could try to bring you plant a little closer together and maybe try lowering your light for 1-2 inches and see if they take it well

I wanted to see how these two would fill in, considering that I have another strain that I will be moving into the rotation here within the next couple of weeks, Chemdawg '91. I was considering bringing the lights a little bit closer, but wanting a grow without issues is preventing me from actually doing it. I don't want to overlook the height of the light for a while and burn the tops, which I have done in the past very easily.

As above, definitely the longer the veg , bigger the wattage, the better your environment, the bigger your yields

That's because I planned on throwing a couple of other smaller ones in the same place.. heard keeping them smaller, but having a couple more helps things out. :lol:

I suppose that applies for the plant as well.. just not trying to have a 1-2 oz plant. The Bubble Chem has a lot of tops, and I have faith that she'll pack on more than 1-2 oz, but that do-si-dos has me worried that she'll only put on an oz or two. I thought the new growing nodes on the do-si-dos would have grown straight up and formed some quick branches, but it looks more like eventual bud sites.

Speaking from experience, I would never grow again with multiple branches (colas) on a short veg, I just end up with several small nugs and the overall yield is poor. From same strain, I started just focusing on 3-4 colas (sort of SOG) and I chopped everything else. Aside from bigger colas, the nugs are denser and overall yield is way better than having 20 colas in one plant on the same veg time. My avatar, is one of my dried and trim cola.

If those were my plants, I would pick 3-4 best branches or maybe even 6 (just because they are too bushy) and chopped everything else or use them for clones. Doing that the first time, you get that hesitation feeling that you gonna lose all that potential bud sites and lower your yield. I took that plunge a long time ago and will chopped off those branches without any hesitation and have never looked back.

Just sharing.

Can I ask, what do you all think of letting the lower branches catch up to the main colas and lollipoping all of them besides the colas. I have a stardwag growing outside, vegged for two months, with full canna nutes. I have 25 tops just starting flowering and I’m wondering what I could expect from the middle buds. Here’s a pic. There’s 6 main colas around the outside from topping and the rest in the middle are branches off of them that I trained to reach a flat canopy.
I’m not asking what I might get weight wise. I’d just like to know if lollipoping the branches up to the top 3 nodes was a good idea.

Very old thread, you could have started your own.. that being said your plant is looking very good ! Keep us posted during the flower cycle
