Question CFL\HPS

Hi.

My new HpS 250 watt setup will be here in a couple days. I am veging 5 plants. I have 8 26 watt 6500k cfl's. That's 208 watts of 6500k light. Now, trying to moves these darn fixtures around the plants is driving me nuts. It is sooo inconvenient. I have them swinging from everywhere, sometimes almost knocking my plants over trying to adjust them.

When my 250 HPS gets here, would i lose anything by veging with that? It outs out 33000 lumens, but of course, it is a more red light. The cfls put out about ten thousand lumens, but all in 6500k veg type light. I don't want to use both because of too much draw on electric, and it would be even more inconvenient doing that. I just want to know if I would be going down hill switching to 33000 lumsn of hps, or should i stay with the 10,000 lumens of 6500 cfl? I would rather put my one hps fixture up above and be done with it, but I don't want to cost my plants valuable light they need.

Dude, you will need more than a 250w HPS for 5 plants, if you want to optimize your grow. By comparison, a 400w is ideal for a 3'x3' space or about 4 plants. During veg this isn't as critical but you will probably stretch your plants with that weak light. During flower you will definitely have to use both to get any kind of quality bud. Good luck.

Hmm To start with, you didn't answer my question. Second, I have heard that 250 hps will be fiine for a 2 foot by 3 foot space. For one thing, I will be throwing the males away, so I won't be taking five full plants deep into flower. More like 2 or three. I have been told by numerous people that 250 watt hps will be just fine for 2, 3 or 4 plants. 400 watt would be way too hot for my small closet. I had the option of geting the 400 watt, and it would ony have cost me 3 more dollars. I chose the 250 based on the opinions from many folks, including the folks at HTG supply where I purchased it. They said it would handle 3x3 just fine, so did folks here.

Now, if you have an answer to my question, I would be grateful.
