if you're getting married and all you have on your mind is some letters than you shouldn't be getting married...

so what? all of a sudden you get married, lose your last name, and now you lose a part of who you are? if anything you gain another part of you when you love someone and commit to spending the rest of your life with them. a name has absolutely no significance to the type of person you are.

I like the idea. Taking his name means I belong to him, I am part of his family and he has shared something very personal and intimate with me.

true, and i have a brother and several male cousins, so the name will live on. Personally, I think it makes a family unit whole. Like when im with my dad's family, we all have the same last name. Then when I live with my mom, she reverted to her maiden name because she hates my last name, and when she finally marries my stepdad she will take his, but for now she has her last name, he has his, and my brother, sister and I all have our dad's last name. Kinda confusing at times,

I don't know anyone else in my family with my last name besides my dad and I barely know him, so i would take my wifes last name as long as I really liked her family and would feel good about carrying on the name for those people. If not we could both agree on a family last name and get it legally changed, carry on our own legacy if she wants.

if she wanted to keep her last name or hyphenate it honestly id feel disrespectful because the reason be is that id like to have my last name live like leave apart of me behind if that makes sense
