Question for the experts.

I have came across some conflicting information recently and was hoping someone could provide me with the facts once and for all. I have always read and been told that late flower,self-pollinated seeds would be hermies. Now, I know that at least some will be hermie since mom was, but is there a chance for males and non-hermie females since the seeds should be genetic clones from the mom? Thanks.

Ok, cool. So to elaborate a little on the question, whats odds of hermies with the fem seeds? Will they all carry the trait?

sometimes good quality fem plant will produce a few fem seeds and i guess they too will produce a few fem seeds....and so on.........thats been my experience anyway

dont forget fem seeds have been produced in controlled way...not like having a naturally occuring hermie which will produce hermies...

Well, a naturally occuring hermie is what Im meaning then. I had a couple clones I got a single seed out of and found a few stamens after trimming. They werent full blown hermies, just selfed late in flower.

The genetics were unstable and it hermied so yes future seeds could be anything and not worth the risk as seedy pot is useless on market. Grow female clones from a stable mother.

I wish it was that easy. Im way out in BFE and cant get clones. I have to go through countless seeds looking for something to keep. Im mainly asking b/c a grow buddy from the pacific northwest says he likes the Arcata Trainwreck because it DOES self-pollinate and HE likes the seeds it produces for future crops. It dont make any sense to me, but made me curious about the seed I produced. I wish I could just go get clones.

IF it was a genotypical female that simply hermies easily, then you can expect MOSTLY females you will likely get a few hermie seeds, but likely can still find a suitable mother plant to take clones from. I wouldnt continue generations of plants like that, but for finding a suitable mother, it should work.

Thanks Phil. Im not really looking to find a mother from selfed seeds, but you said just about exactly what I was thinking would be most likely to happen. The original seed was gifted to me, I have some TGA gear about to show sex and some urkle that was gifted to me. Hopefully theres something worth running for a while in that.

Since it is fairly common for females to hermie late in flower, I would certainly use the seeds. Many people let their plants go a little longer, just so this will happen in order to get fem seeds.

Thats kinda along the lines of what my buddy told me. I wasnt sure how common of a practice it is though. It goes against most things Ive read and heard but makes ponder the possibilities. Thanks.

Femmed seed have the potential to be hermies, but don't count on it. If you want hermies just use Colloidal Silver.
