So FLIR is handy for them in spotting grow rooms and such, but around here I've heard rumor that either FLIR or a similar technology is being used to spot the plants directly and not by related man-made heat sources.
As I've heard, one is required to purchace a permit / stamp for growing more than 25 tomato plants as their natural "thermal color"(?) is identical to that of Pot plants and supposedly lead to cases of local law boys raiding Old man Johnsons Farm in their relentless quest to uproot all the devil weed they can find.
I'm new to this rural area in the Ozarks myself and about as new to the concept of trying to cultivate outdoors, but I have noticed about 5 to 8 chopper fly-by's a day, they seem to be making a sloppy grid over the rolling hills and dense forest. Have yet to get the old Binoc's out and properly ID the choppers in question but they are pretty consistent in their patterns (Increasingly so since mid-April).
I guess my question boils down to if anyone knows if either FLIR or a similar technolgy is being used to spot plants "out in the open", no special structures, no additional lighting, just growing amongst the trees and dense undergrowth (Say 8 to 15 plants spread across an acre, using the low stress method & tying them down in coils / How well hidden would you consider that in a forested-rural environment?) or if the rumors of the Tomato stamp are just stories stirred up as a means of disinformational propaganda? (Disinformational propaganda from our Government?!? Whodathunkit...)
