Question on Ariel detection methods

So FLIR is handy for them in spotting grow rooms and such, but around here I've heard rumor that either FLIR or a similar technology is being used to spot the plants directly and not by related man-made heat sources.

As I've heard, one is required to purchace a permit / stamp for growing more than 25 tomato plants as their natural "thermal color"(?) is identical to that of Pot plants and supposedly lead to cases of local law boys raiding Old man Johnsons Farm in their relentless quest to uproot all the devil weed they can find.

I'm new to this rural area in the Ozarks myself and about as new to the concept of trying to cultivate outdoors, but I have noticed about 5 to 8 chopper fly-by's a day, they seem to be making a sloppy grid over the rolling hills and dense forest. Have yet to get the old Binoc's out and properly ID the choppers in question but they are pretty consistent in their patterns (Increasingly so since mid-April).

I guess my question boils down to if anyone knows if either FLIR or a similar technolgy is being used to spot plants "out in the open", no special structures, no additional lighting, just growing amongst the trees and dense undergrowth (Say 8 to 15 plants spread across an acre, using the low stress method & tying them down in coils / How well hidden would you consider that in a forested-rural environment?) or if the rumors of the Tomato stamp are just stories stirred up as a means of disinformational propaganda? (Disinformational propaganda from our Government?!? Whodathunkit...)

No such law as a tomatoe stamp.

As for flir fly overs with the intent on spotting grows there is no real answer to that, each state/county/prosecutor has its own agenda, one state's prosecutor may need an asload of headlines to run for office so they bust everything in sight to appear tough on crime.

Well Stamp, Permit, errr,,, Heard it from a Local, could be he confused the story of FLIR spotting grow rooms in relation to some farmer growing tomatos who neglected to add he was growing them in a hothouse which was mistaken for a hemp-hut? I dunno, but the few locals I've heard this from are under the impression that local authorities have the ability and also practice some method similar to FLIR which spots out the Plant directly, regardless of lighting or waste heat generated. May sound silly (Yea it does) but I figured I'd better ask than find out the hard way thats it's not as far-fetched an idea as it sounds.

And knowing is 1/2 the battle. :bigjoint:

Thanks for the replies.
