Question on CFL wattage and Lumens...Can someone tell me if this is right?

  • Since lumens are the measurements of the TOTAL amount of VISIBLE LIGHT……..then when you are in veggie stage…….are you wanting to keep your kelins at 6500 and try to find the most amount (?) of lumens from a bulb….?…..Example : if a person has three plants in veg. , 3×3 space, would a cfl that rates at 200watts / 6500K / but only has 2800L… will this be not enough to grow with ???Sorry, but one more question……(thanks)…….say if you are using same area space above mentioned, if you were to use (two) of the same bulbs mentioned above, would the total of lumens be brought up to 5600 but the kelvin amount would stay the same at 6500…….?…..is this right ???? If this is correct, is this why people go with higher wattage bulbs to get more lumens ? ………thank you so much and you guys have a kick a_ _ site here….love it ..been a lot of help, you have no idea…..you guys break it down simple and easy for people like me. Thats right, I’m calling myself simple, that’s why I need to grow weed (lol)

P.S. ...one more thing.... no disrespect to CFL growers, again I am only learning still, but looking at the pics posted here on CFL...I am a little worried because I only see young veggies is it because these bulbs don't produce well sized buds? If some one has pics of some healthy buds - please share them this way, but either way let me know what your running for light.... thank you

FOr me.. I learned to instead of go for th 'big bud' under CFL

It is better to go for more tops, and more spread out bud by training ..

Works for me..

All older shots, nothing special,l but 'representative' enough for what I do under CFL.. I certainly refined it considerably since these photos from a few years back,.,

CFL's work fine if you want them to.

Welcome

1st. Yes you can add as many CFls rated at 6500 and that will never change how ever the more bulbs u add the more lumens for the plants so say u add 2 200w 6500k bulbs at 2800lumen you would have 5600lumens

2nd. I would say go for 2 of them 200w cfls in that space but sayin that you could get a 400w hps and have about 50,000 lumens for the same price in electric and 5x the yield but depending on the price of ur cfls you may want to look into a new or used hps system I'm in uk and I can get a 600w hps system with hood bulb and balist for £55 so look into it

3rd I've seen some epic CFL grows on here and yes they will work and yield something but nothing will compair to a HID light yield

My advice to any new grower don't see your wst grow as the be all end all experiment, and have fun don't take anyone persons advice as there is a lot of bell ends on here who will tell you total bull!

But yeah have a good grow and have fuunnnn

Edit: look into LST, SOG, TOPPING. And so on they all help on yield

well, in fact, CFL give less lumens and more heat per watt that HPS. for the same amount of watt usage you will simply get more bud using HPS

OH MY GODDD! thats what I wanted to see -- thats some serious buds from CFLs .. I started to give up hope trying to growning my own cause my worry about stealth and elec. bill increase,etc... I thought I only had one option for safety, which was CFLs. You put the fire back under my ass .... Thank you - and if you don't mind from time to time I might have a few questions.......Happy 420

For small spaces I actually PREFER CFL.. After tooling, I can get a fatter, tighter bud from 150 watts CFL than I can 150 watt HPS.. (by default of placement).

When I do CFl grows (A few times a year) I use about 250 watt of CFL, that costs me I dunno.. never really saw the bill go up or down noticeably.. 10 dollars at the most??

10 bucks for electric a month (IN the winter call it a heater, and it is free), you can bring in a QP every two months (or so) in an 18 inch by 24 inch space. And it will be as good and potent of grass as any other lighting medium if you tend to it.

It CAN be done, if you want to put in the effort.. Anything you have questions, I'd love to toss some thoughts.. no worries, I am only here to help others get away from having to depend on others, IF they are 'able'.. And sometimes 'able' means a cardboard box, a few CFL's, sacrificing a few home lamps for cords and some duct tape, maybe some bubble gum.. IT CAN BE DONE, CHEAPLY, BY ALMOST ANYONE..; heh..

That said, ALWAYS try and keep it close to 'fire code'.. don't let my 'You can do it with a candle' have you burning down the house.
