Question on lights per crop size

I'm planning on having 2 medical gardens, one for my wife and the other for myself. Without burning 9000w in a single room, what would be the best suggestion for the amount of lighting for a veg and flower room. Cash is not an issue and neither is room.

First) I am torn between using florescents or a MH for my vegging room. I'm assuming that I will have at least 2 mothers and 40 clones. I am looking into 6x4 florescents, probably 2 or 3 of these. I know that this will work vegging, but I want the best for vegging.

Second) I am fairly sure that 400w lights won't be the way to go. I was thinking a 1000w HPS with the mini sun soaker plate, but I'm pretty sure that this will not be enough for a 12 (to 18) plant garden. What should I throw in with this? A second 1w with the sun soaker or perhaps two 600w lamps?

get a 400w Metal Halide for veg and two 600w hps/mh for flower if you have the cash. and air cooling. if you get 1000w you need to invest in better air cooling. 12 to 18 plants would be ok under a couple 600w if they aren't too big... and 400w mh is definitely enough for 2 mothers and 40 clones.

I think I would use tubes for the moms and clones. 2-400w mh for veg and 2x600w hps for flower. Or even 2x1000w hps.

makesure ya get high output t5 flouros bulbs and fixtures i'd say 2 600w or if you could afford it and cooltube it you could use 2 1000w-since moneys not an issue

Thank you so much for your suggestions. With what I'm already looking at (w/o calling HTG up for a discount) I'm looking at $2899. I'll readjust what I'm considering and we'll see what I come up with (starting from scratch with this project, will be my first grow room that I put together with just myself)

Ballasts, lamps, air cooled reflectors, centrifugal fans, carbon filters, adds up quickly :eyesmoke:

If I were in your situation with two rooms like that I would pick up some t5ho for the clones and a 4-600w mh for mothers and veg and then a 1000w and 2 600w for the flowering area and three air cooled reflectors with glass lenses and an 8" centrifugal fan w/ carbon filter for venting the reflectors and filtering the air. Or maybe even an 8" fan for venting and a second 6" fan/filter for smell, dep on the setup.

Just to go on a little more haha

I have personally adopted the technique used by the super guru Heath Robinson. Horses and Courses.

x 0 x
0 x 0
x 0 x

(0 +1) 0 equals plants x = lights Each plant with this equation gets nailed by three lights.

Grown tree style hang light vertically naked in winter and fresca water cooled in summer.

Personal favorite is lumatek dual 600 utilizing sylvania growlux bulbs. Expect no less than 1.5 gpw to 2.3 gpw if you use his fast recirc bucket mods. Give yourself 5 foot on center for each tree. Around 3 to 4 pounds per plant ish.

i know the thread is a little old but instaed of 2 1000's use 3 600's u will get more light and use less power (cervantis bible)u can keep the lights closer to the plants i flower 10 under 1 600 in a 3x4x7 area and average at least a pound depends on plants u run somethin to consider if u use 3 600's i would run a conversion bulb in the middle to give it the mh spectrum also
