Question On Nutes For DWC

Hello everyone,

I'm about to gather all the supplies I need to make a dual 18gal DWC system. I have a few questions before I finalize all the parts and pick them up. First, a little more information. My grow room will be about 40"L x 40"W x 78"H. I'm planning on having two holes in each reservoir making a total of four plant for the room. I plan on having a 600W MH for vegging and 600W HPS for flowering. I am also planning on using General Hydroponics three part system for my nutes. So now, on to my questions. Given my setup plans, do you think I should add more holes into the reservoir lids for more plants or will it be too crowded? When maintaining nutrient levels in the solution, how does one measure the nutrients in the nutrient solution? How do I know when to change the solution completely and how do I know when to lower the nutrient solution level so that I allow the root system to grow more? That's pretty much all the questions I have, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you require more information to answer any of my questions, I'll be happy to accomodate.

I also forgot to mention that the two containers are 23" x 17" each. Also, I'm planning on making the holes 5" wide.

I have a similar set up. Im a first time grower... and this is what I have learned.
Two plants per res. is MAX if you are growing decent sized plants... which it sounds like u want.
My 2 plants suck up about 1/2 a gallon of nutes / H20 a day. If I had 4 plants per res... or 6... it would be way over-crowded and the H20/PH levels would be difficult to maintain... as a rookie.
I have been following the GH schedule... but cutting all the levels by about 25%.
I add CalMag... I really needed it... and you may too. I hear many DWC growers add as well.
Here is a pic of my girls... from last week. They are about 4 inches bigger and bushier. They are topping out of my veg room.

wow, nice ladies. Thanks for the reply, it was very helpful. I'll have to check out the last nute you were talking about. I was thinking about getting GH as well, with the diamond something one they have. I can't remember the name exactly. Could you provide any resources on that last nute, the CalMag? Thanks again.

CalMag... its on the shelf at your hydro store. It adds Calcium and Mag to your H20, as well as other trace minerals. My fan leaves were developing rusty spots. CalMag took care of that. GH is working well for my. I havent used Diamond Nectar. My girls go into the Bloom Room tonight. Crossing my fingers that they are in-fact girls... and I will have some nice nugs in about 7 weeks or so. I will probably experiment more with nutes in my next round. Then again... things are going well by keeping it simple. Good Luck.
