Question regarding PH run off in Coco Coir

I currently have a Widow Bomb running 12/12 from seed; at week 4 from seed and flowering has just kicked in. Growing in Cana Coco using Hesi nutes.

I checked the run-off a few days back and its reading at 6.8, wtf! Only ever feed at levels between 5.6-5.8, this is my 4th plant and the first time Ive had this issue.

I noticed a few tiny orange spots on a couple of the fan leaves that looks like a calcium def; I assumed this was due to a PH lockout and so flushed her with 15 liters of PH water + CalMag yesterday. The pot she is in is 7.5 liters so I assumed this would be enough, however there is no change at all in the PH of the run-off!

Any suggestions? Do I just keep pushing water through her until the run-off is corrected?

Hey, not an experienced coco grower but just started some myself. I've done some research and I'm pretty sure that the coco buffers the ph so your runoff will be more alkaline than your feed. Need not worry, I'm sure if your ph pen or whatever your using to ph your water is fine and calibrated then you should look into your nutes and maybe adding some cal/mag or increasing ppm's if you think you have a nutrient def. Or a good flush if you haven't been watering to run off or adding straight water into your feeding maybe you could have excess nutrient salt build up causing lockout.

I'm no expert but just some ideas to help you on your way

Good luck

I keep telling people, why are you measuring run off? it tells you nothing, it's run-off. put the ph pen down and learn to read the plant. don't create problems that aren't there.

I grow with coco too but am no expert. I read somewhere coco is an inert medium and shouldn't influence the pH. My pH in is around 6 and run-off pH higher too around 7 or even higher maybe. I only have a colorimetric pH meter so it's hard to be super accurate with my pH. The plants seem to be doing ok so I just ignore it. The thing that might cause this in my set-up is that I use lemon juice as my pH down and I heard it is buffering capability is not so stable over time. Other than that I also read that as the plants use up nutrients the pH will change that's why you have to keep adjusting your pH in liquid hydro systems.

thanks for the replies guys; think Im just going to continue on as I am. She seems to be doing OK, calcium def hasnt progressed any further along that I can see so hopefully the CalMag did the trick.

Here she is.....IMG_0782.jpgIMG_0780.jpgIMG_0781.jpg
