hey guys ive been seeing alot of grow videos were the people have chopped off all the fan leaves so theres 100% of the light going to the bud sites is this a good method like whats the Pro's and Con's

Im starting week 2 of flowering tomorrow and i want to know if i should do it or will my plants die

or should i just chop the Big ones covering the bud sites ? im to scared to lst the main cola in case of it snapping straight off

Some people say its good to trim them off so that the lower buds get light.
Others say to only trim a leaf if it's lost at least 50% of its green pigment.
Seeing as how your in flowering I would keep the trimmings to a minimum, let it concentrate on budding not healing.
LOL I snapped one of mine when trying to lst, it took a bit to recover but it just pushed on with 4 main colas instead of one. This was 2nd week into flowering.

i cant take a picture as lights are off atm but if you look at my sig i uploaded a pic of them yesterday some of the bud sites are getting quite tall so i sort of pushed the fan leaves under them abit

it's the leaves that perform photosynthesis for the plant, not the bud sites, there fore it's the leaves that are making foods and sugars that the plant than uses to grow guess what?? buds, yes, that's correct, no leaves, no food or sugars for the plant, no big ass buds at the end of the grow..
people you see removing leaves from plants on you tube are complete idiots.. remember, it doesn't take a person to have a botany degree to post videos on you tube, remember this, and pretty much any idiot with a video camera can put up videos on the site...

Yeah , lets all chop our Fan leaves off,
Get light to lower bud sites by adding side lighting etc,
How many leafless plants do you know of ?
Fan leaves or sugar factories,
Leave em on.

Never cut off leaves, regardless of what they shade. Do not cut off leaves that are yellowing. Do not cut off a leaf you accidently rip 1/3 the way through. Thank you.

^_^.. you may have saw a pic of someone @ harvest who removed all fans before chop. which is fine, as long as you are harvesting the same day.. .

Light is the energy for plants. So how could the buds possibly get energy without being in the light?!

There's a balance imo. I will sometimes take off leaves that are yellowing, and usually take off leaves that are past yellowing. I don't want any dead foliage in my grow room for fungus to reside in. Also, there's a point when the leaf isn't really doing much for your plant anymore, and getting light to lower branches will improve your overall yield. There is a time and reason to remove fan leaves, but make sure you think it through. I think those people who trim their fans off before pics and videos do so, because their fan leaves are unhealthy and make their plant look like shit. Hard to show off a shitting looking plant. When all you see is bud, well.. all you see is bud.
