Grants for solar...IDK check with the electric provider. There are some places off the grid...but you have to manage resources very carefully...and have a back up. Personally, between wind and solar, you should be able to do OK...just my opinion

I know a few people that used solar city to set theirs up, but I don't know all of the details. They mentioned no up front costs and if after 20 years they don't 'renew', the company will replace your roof when they remove the panels.

You can garden year round, in the desert. Crop selection is important. I don't see a need for shading your mj...except to keep hoppers off.
MMJ does not do well when its 110-120 outside especially without some shade..LOl

Sativas do very well outdoor in Az

Harvested Blue Dream in Az (outdoor temps over 100) the last 3 seasons with great success. Indica strains are best put in the shaded areas (6-8 hours direct sunlight and cool soil) while the sativas love the direct (8-12 hours) hot sun in AZ. In most cases the sativas are so tall you need the full days sun to get light on the whole plant; now indicas are a different story - a bit of top light covers the whole plant usually! The best option is a greenhouse to control temps and take advantage of this great sun power we have in AZ no HPS compares.
