Questions about my proposed setup

Hello, this is my first grow and after reading this board along with a few others for the last month I still have a few questions. Firstly I am a Cali MMC holder and I want to stay within the laws of Cali so I am intending on only growing 6 plants at a time. My grow will be in a closet since I have no yard  and my space is limited to 49" wide by 25" deep by 96" high. I will be mounting a platform 24" off of the floor leaving 6' of height for the grow area. I will be buying clones of OG Kush from a local dispensary that measure around 13" tall so as to save me some grow time.

For lighting and ventilation I am mounting a 400w HID system on movable hangers with 3 bathroom exhaust fans mounted into the ceiling that will vent into our attic. I am also installing louvers in the bottom part of the door to allow for airflow. My closet temp usually runs around 70 with the A/C on in the bedroom. I am also considering mounting a 200 watt CFL on each side for additional light.

Now my first question is since I am restricted to 6 mature or 12 immature plants at once is a SCROG setup really worth it? I understand that there is a trade off on the grow times between going SCROG or regular, as is there a trade off with the amount of flower you get.

If doing a SCROG I would just get one of the DWC all in one setups and fill 6 pots with my screen set about 18" above the top of the DWC.

I have found a few off the shelf systems that will fit in this space but am unsure which ones are suitable to growing marijuana. Also I am unsure whether to do DWC or drip as there are systems available for both. And lastly I prefer the single pot systems, ie using a DWC 8 pot setup or some other mfgs similar system where everything is contained in one unit.

Here are the pics of some of the systems that I am looking at, please feel free to give me suggestions.

1. Ecogrower system, 24" Hex shape with 6 x 6" pots, stands 17" high with 17 gal reservoir, uses drip system.

2. Ecogrower system, same as above but instead of drip it uses a pop-up mister that's in the middle.

3. Deep Water Inovations, picture 2, 4 x 6" pots in each, would need 2 of these, unsure of the capacity of the reservoir, looks to be about 6 to 10 gals.

4. DWC Hydroponics, picture 3. They have 2 systems that I am looking at, one has drip the other doesn't. Other than that they are identical, each has 8 3.75" pots with a ten gallon reservoir.

Well there you have it, hopefully a few up here have had experience with some or all of these offerings. One thing I like about the Ecogrowers is the small footprint they take up in the closet allowing room for the rest of my equipment such as nutrients and fans. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated, thanks!!

You've got a 4ft wide closet. I recommend using that width and not buying that hex shape. If it were me I would do a 1ft x 4ft or 1ft by 3ft tray and use 6" rockwool cubes.

The cost of a 400w set up is almost the same as a 600 or a 1000. Most 400w grow I see is a tad wimpy. The additional expense on the utilities will easily be made up in yield.

You're growing legit OG? I have her. She grows long and vine like. I would top her at least once. If you really are going to do a scrog I suggest topping her a few times. OG is a long leggy strain and you will have little side branching unless you top. I would top her at about 10".

You can legally grow way more than 6 dude.

First grow = KISS Keep It super simple. Grow 6 plants in DWC. Purchase a 600 watt light,( Lumatek is nice brand) most bang for the buck, 1000 is probably going to be a bit hard to ventilate in a closet. Get a cooltube or a decent enclosed hood. Make the DWC buckets yourself from 5 gallon pails you buy at the hardware store. For the lids buy these net pot lids .... http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=45836, 3 dual outlet air pumps, a good programmable timer, 6 round airstones, airline, Hydroton pebbles, circulating fan and Hydroponic nutrients. FWIW I just use Advanced Nutrients Sensi grow A&B for veg and Sensi Bloom A&B for bloom and a few drops of superthrive and get good results. No need to spend hundreds of bucks on all sorts of nutrients IMO. Phosphoric Acid for PH Down ( Advanced Nutes(AN) makes this too) and potassium Chloride for PH up ( Again AN has this). The Quality of the PH and TDS Meters can make or break your grow. I trust Hanna brand, Do not skimp on this! A cheap meter will break or be unreliable and that alone can kill your plants. Growing Hydroponically is much much more dependent on PH and TDS Regulation, a failure in any part of the system can literally kill all the plants in just a day. 1 overnute situation can burn the whole plant to a crisp overnight, PH extremes can also kill or severely stunt plant growth.

You should be able to get everything you need for less than $1000.
