Questions about trichs...

do you all believe in leaving the plant in 72 hours of darkness before harvest???

"The Stichting Institute of Medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmacies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis,
together with TNO laboratories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.
SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."

I have never grown SLH so I am not sue how fast the trichome colors will advance, but being mostly sativa I will do something I don't like to do and guess that will be early enough to start to flush to end up with the final trich color you want. Just like how sativas have a long flowering period, due to narrow lighter green leaves containing less chlorophyll than something more indica, the trichome color change is not as rapid as in somethng with more indica in it.

Strains that are pure sativa and very highly predominant sativa, like 90% sativa, will reach peak THC levels when the trichomes are still clear I don't know the exact percentage of sativa in SLH but I tend to believe it is up there in or near that range but if you want mostly cloudy, they're your plants, so go for it. The only thing I would advise is if any of the 5% to 10% amber you see goes beyond a light colored amber and become a deeper darker amber, rethink things a bit and take your plants a little earlier even if that means a small percentage of clear or only slightly cloudy trichomes remain.

Strain Lineage / Genealogy / Family Tree

Based on some growth and smoke reports I have read about SLH you should enjoy it. Here is one of them:

Plant-Profile about Super Lemon Haze (by Green House Seeds)

This Plant-Profile is a individual expression by ibtheman, uploaded at the 23.10.2010.
Information about the growth of the plants:

Flowering Time Indoor: Between 58 an 68 days (Average: 63 days.)
Stretch after the initiation of flowering: ~ 225 Percent
Initiation of flowering onto around 40 cm. - Final Height onto around 130 cm.
Growth Behavior: Bushy; Like a christmas tree
Side Branches: a lot of; very long as well as slightly above average strongness.

The plants of this Cannabis-Strain...
...can be placed close together.
...do not need much care.
...are tolerant to over- or under-fertilization.
...are not vulnerable to fungal diseases.
...are not susceptible to mold.
...are tolerant of temperature fluctuations.
...have no problems with low temperatures.
...have no problems with high temperatures.
...looks and grow more like a Sativa.
...build many, thick buds on the side branches.
...respond well to the pruning of the main stem.
Harvest, Yield, Taste, Aroma, strength and effectiveness

Yield / Quantity: The crop of this strain is great.
Buds / Leaves: The ratio of buds to leaves is absolute peak.
Bud Structure: The dried buds are rather hard and compact.
Strength / Lasting Effect: The weed insane strong and very long lasting.
Tolerance Built: quasi not any tolerance education.
The taste / flavour of this variety recalls onto / is

Sweet; Sugar; Sour; Spicy; Pine; Hashish
The aroma / smell of this variety recalls onto / is

Sweet; Sugar; Sour; Spicy; Hashish
The weed effect

Head; Light headed; Spacy / Confusedly; Psychedelic; Body (This is only my added assumption but if the grower had a good bit of confusion affect from something with so much sativa in it he likely went for a good amount of amber trichomes and lost THC as it oxidized turning into a good deal more CBN.)
General Impression

Super Lemon Haze (Green House Seeds)
(Indoor)
is all together insane strain - absolutely recommendable
(On average 10 Points onto a scale between 0 and 10!)

if i try and post some good pics on here of the plants and trics to c wot u think of them..
so really i dont want no amber, just about 10% clear, 90% cloudy and thats harvest to get the best out of them? so if i stared flush wen im 50-50% clear, cloudy i should b ok for them to have no amber.. just a good learning curve as its the 1st time ive looked at the trics to check wen they r done so ill learn off my mistakes..
but u seem to put a good prospect into things and know wot u r on about..
how long do they normally take to change color on other strains?

I'm not attempting to tell you when you should harvest your plants. Your personal likes and dislikes and tastes have to dictate that. I was only saying that for peak THC levels a pure sativa or one that is almost pure, like around 90%, they will reach peak THC levels while their trichomes are still clear so in those cases if someone wants max THC levels they would harvest when they have about 5% to 10% cloudy trichs and that gives the rest of the ones that are still clear a chance to fully load up with THC.

When you post a message in the quick reply box if you look down and to the right you will see "Post Quick Reply" and "Go Advanced" and "Cancel" If you click on "Go Advanced" you will find a place to click to add attachments .... but if you are going to post pictures of trichomes you better have a damn clear very high resolution digital camera that takes super close up pictures that will very clearly show the trichomes and their color or else no one will be able to see them well enough to tell you anything more than they now can.

Indica varieties usually have a 1-2 week harvest window to work with where you will still, more or less, be in the peak THC range, while Sativas and Indica/Sativa hybrids have a longer period to play with, but it is strain dependent so it is impossible to say with any real degree of accuracy, especially in a strain like SLH that I have never grown, if that will be 3 weeks or a month. But based on that is why I said your initial plan for when to flush and end up with the trich color you want 'should' be cool and the gang.

good advice going on.....might i stick to a general golden rule.....pay attention to it everyday, gauge how your trich's are changing..... unknown strains can be tricky....and it isnt quite like its a matter of hours to garuntee a decent crop. experience is what begins to pay off in these situations. best of luck.
