Quick cloning question..

I was at the hydro store buying some rock wool cubes and
I asked the guy if there is such thing as not enough or too much rooting gel..
he laughed and said all the gel does is stop oxygen from hitting the cut..

if thats true why dont you just stick a cut in the rock wool and just give it water -_-

either way i feel a bit more confident about my clones.. its my first set so im no expert..

Root gels and powders etc contain hormones that are supposed to help stimulate rooting. The main one to know about is IAA(Indole Acetic Acid) , or more broadly, Auxin. Auxins are hormones in the plant that tell it where to grow, so you put some on the cut stem of your clone to be, it gets absorbed locally, and the cutting works towards healing and rooting.
Now, is it NEEDED? Not really, most cuttings are taken at specific points on the plant where auxin is richer. If you want something free and homemade you can steep weeping willow chunks (or smashed branches) in water overnight.
Too much or not enough? For consumer available jellies and powders, you just dunk the cut end into a lil container with some of the "stuff", and insert to growth media. There are some rooting compounds that are super strong and can hurt the plants if exposed too long, but they are harder to get a hold of anyways.

First things first dnt talk with him anymore or ask advice rooting gel contains hormones that help the plant root

And I generally dnt use gel but when I do I dip it in and that's that I dnt use a hudge glob as long as the end 1/4 inch has gel ur good in my opinion.

Quit asking for advice at the hydro store.

My babies get caked with Clonex and in 110 days produce 7 ozs each. Tell that hydro guy the gel he is using is cutting off oxygen, to his brain.

Not even one week later the first two blue dream cuttings sprouted roots..
I transplanted the rock wool in a Dixie cup with soil
