quick question about root aphids

hey guys, is it possible for root aphids to wanders the outsides of pots? I was under the impression that they are found in the soil but I see root aphids crawling around the outsides of the pots, is that normal or do I need to re identify as something other than root aphids. Thanks for taking the time to read the post :)

they definitely crawl around the outside, look like tiny cockroaches
 
image.jpeg Christ I had an epic battle between good and evil with aphids a couple years ago. I hope they're gnats for your sake.

When you get a bad infestation you'll start seeing the winged ones flying around, they'll be black and look like really big gnats. If you use a scope or jewelers loupe and look up and down your stalk and under your leaves you'll see little green bugs walking around that are kind of long and skinny. They're assholes.

Looks like the mother in the pic was crapping one out while she was walking! dang!
 
Imidacloprid sp. ? Bayer tree and shrub or citrus. I had to deal with these guys once and they're crazy, they're actually born pregnant. I'd recommend boning up on phylloxera. I beat them with two very lite treatments of imidacloprid days apart, lady bugs, yellow sticky cards, and tangle foot strategically placed. This is the only time if used a Chem like this and only decided to after reading many articles about imidacloprids PHI windows on food crops. Look for the tell tale tubes..images.jpg

THIS. Follow these instructions, especially the reapplication a few days to a week later.

For RDWC, you leave it in for 24 hours, then dump n refill your system with fresh sauce. Since you'll want a reapplication, you can skip dumping the first time and dump 24 hours after the second application. Nailed mine and they've never been back, knock wood!
 
I can't say I remember how long I did run it, but it was shorter periods probably not much more than 12 hours, and I flooded my buckets to drive them out/kill for about 10-15 mins before I flipped the res. I forget to mention that if buds aren't setting a foliar is good too. I use a pump sprayer and wash off net cups and remove damaged roots, I run a sterile res too.

Another note I failed to mention is to use this product responsibly, it's very bad for honey bees and should be taken into consideration, especially if you're using it outdoors.
 
Only way to really know is dig. Down an inch or two and inspect the roots. But I am willing to bet they are predatory soil mites. Do you have any gnats flying around?
 
I'm at my wit's end. I'm not sure I have root aphids at this point since I don't see any in the soil, only on the outsides of the pots. None on plant itself. Drenched with promis which has imadiclorpid in it. That was three days ago and these little guys are still all over the pots. Only thing that seems to work is mighty wash spray but they come back a couple days later. Tried a neem spray, seems to be totally ineffective.

Here's a pic of them, what do you think they are? they definetly look nothing like any of the pics you guys have posted so i'm totally confused now.

They are white, oval and have a large, shiny oval "butt" with multiple tails, they almost look like little white spikes coming out of it, the number of tails vary from bug to bug. I was hoping they were springtails but they are not.

I have had 0 gnats or any flying bugs for months. been dealing with this little white bugs for about 4 months now with no flyers to speak of.

the second to last pic (the one with the flash) is probably the clearest one to see, you can see some of the legs and the tails I was talking about, thanks for your help btw motorbuds

I can kind of see the legs, are they fuzzy? They kind of look like mealy bugs.

EDIT: Just found some pics online, do they look like this?

Yep , one thing they are not, that is ahpids, aphids have a nymph stage, and look nothing like the last few photos
