Quick question on humidity levels.

What is the best humidity level (RH) and temperature to store cannabis?
Also, is that different from the humidity level that is optimal to smoke? I heard that 15% is good for storage, but that seems like it would be pretty dry for smoking.

Don't no why you would want any. After dry and cured seal that bud in a airless jar and store it in a cool dark place. I do it and the tast and smoke gets better with age like a fine wine lol

if i remember right it's low 50's (RH) for long term storage...but read the thread....

So after doing some reading I'm thinking hanging a day or so then jaring it if it's 60-65 rh then remove the lid a few times till rh hits 50 and then store it to cure it!! I will be trying this my caliber 3 is on it's way as we speak. Good to no this stuff thanks for post:)

Well i've heard of people storing weed long term in cigar humidors and having great results. Cigar humidors are usually kept at around 70% humidity ideally.

read up in the harvest & curing section....you don't want to drop below 55% RH (it will not cure if you go below that)

I personally like 62%, but I know some prefer around 58%.

Glass mason jars are the best....nothing else really works the same

a glass jar is meant to confine it in its own environment..the outside air/temps wont have a impact, unless its really hot out and raises the temps in the jar over the glass medium (pretty damn hot, glass is heat resistant)

Inside the jar? try and keep it above 58 and below 65 or summit, i would go and check the harvesting and curing section, there will be a ton of info there, and people who know what they are talking about, Trust the stickies they will guide you right.

My bud is dried to 20% for smoke and if long term storage is required I take it down to 15%. At this point you will need to re-hydrate but you will se no issues with mold or mildew. I re-hydrate by putting a wte napkin with it until its back to 20%

Do you mean the rh inside of the jar, doesn't that mean the pot will be crispy and fall apart into crums if you touched it, I had the rh inside my jar at 65 and it was nice an dry, couldnt imagine 15% rh.

my exact thoughts as well.....15% would crumple into dust... I would consider 55% as too low, IMHO low to mid 60's is about perfect.

BTW: cigars are stored at similar levels (62-65%) which are stored in humidors for many years, even decades

in the cigar world, 70% would be consider the upper max, but there is a risk of mold at 70% RH...... and 60% would be considered the absolute low.

most cigar humidors maintain the RH around 62 to 65% (this varies with personal taste).

The external RH environment does slowly impact the RH within your jar so keeping your pot jars in the humidor works very well, as it's dark and the RH is stable and very close to your desire jar RH.

do a salt test on your caliber hygrometer to know if it's reading high or low....seldom are they 100% accurate

yes, try to keep it around 60-65 RH.....but do not let your pot go below 55% RH

go to your local cigar shop or a cigar web site for more information on the calibration salt test

Luckily as nature would have it, when salt and water are in a saturated solution at equilibrium, the resultant humidity is 75.5%. This gives a fantastic reference point to calibrate hygrometers.

Here's the salt test procedure:

Get a bottle cap of some sort - like a beer cap.... Fill it with regular table salt.

Then drop a few drops of water on the salt. DO NOT put to much water on the salt. The salt should only be damp, and not a liquid solution. It should be like moist sand, not like soft mud.

Then put the bottle cap of salt and your hygrometer in a zip-lock freezer bag, then seal it (leave a bit air in the bag... don't make it a vacuum), then put into a second zip-lock bag...seal.

Wait several hours (about six). The humidity inside the bag will be 75.5%. Compare it to your hygrometer to see exactly how far "high or low" your hygrometer is.

I disagree.....the outside environment will influence the RH in the jar
