i have a few plants that are a month old in general hydroponics rainforest 66. i must say that i love this set up my plants seem to grow so fast. but my question is the roots from my plant have come through the net pots and are now dangling in the resevior. the directions say that once the roots come through the net pots to only have the sprayer on during the day and off at night. would you reccomend this or should/can i just leave the sprayer on for 24hrs a day? wouldnt turning it off cause the nutrients to settle on the bottom?

First, it's good that the roots are growing outside of the pot. The roots dangling down into the nutrient reservoir is not a problem. Essentially, the RainForest 66 (and other systems) are an aeroponic/Deep Water Culture (DWC) combination system.

So it's fine for the roots to be in the solution as long as it's fairly oxygenated, doesn't get stagnant, and is at the appropriate nutrient strength (around 900 ppm.)

The solution should be fairly oxygenated because the Vortex sprayer (of the RainForest) does a good job churning the water.

That answers your first question. As for any tips, aside from keeping a very diligent watch on the solution, you will likely need to brace your plants. They will usually get too heavy and bend over.

Good luck.

Just my personal experience, the only time I ever shut down the vortex sprayer using the RF 66 was when I was checking ph and nute strenght. Other than that, I kept it on 24/7 with no adverse affects at all. Ive just finished my first grow in the RF 66 so feel free to ask away any other questions you may have with this system.

One tip I will offer is DO NOT TOP or FIM your plants using the RF 66... Its waaaay tooo crowded for 6 plants anyways and the extra branches resulting from the TOP'ing or FIM'ing only made my problem worse. Next crop I may decide to do only 3 sites leaving the other 3 for clones using the clone inserts.

Good Luck

I am finishing up my second grow in a Rainforest 66, and I have never shut off my vortex sprayer.

I would suggest going to Wal-Mart and picking up a dual air pump and 2 airstones in the aquarium section. Run the tubing from the air pump through the little whole at the top (where the brown plug is) and drop the two airstones at the bottom of the reservoir. This will help keep the water oxygenated.

Also, if you arent using organic nutes, I would recommend using H202 in your water to keep pathogens at bay.

I have a 400w MH/HPS...... mylar all over.... covered any places on the RF66 where light can get into the nute reservoir........... another question..... how to keep the roots from tangling up in there so I can yank the males????

hey guys

Whats up!? I did a quick search for the RainForest 66 - and found this thread. I bought one today and cant wait to run my first "REAL" grow (Ive made a few lame CFL Soil grow attempts in the past)

I just bought the RainForest 66, 1000w HPS Light Kit with Digital ballast, 4x4 tent, Fan/Filter combo, and a wide selection of seeds from Atiitude.

Most of my stuff is already here, I just have to wait on the tent - which should arrive tomorrow afternoon.

Ill be setting up a day-by-day journal - ill post the think here once she's started!

I see that all of you guys are getting the RF66 but I am thinking about purchasing the RF36 for I only have a small space and plan on doing three plants. This is my second time growing but first with any kind of system. What do you guys suggest I need?

Right now I have a 2ft deepx 4ft wide x 6ft high cabinet that I built with mylar covering it and 150W HPS. Its a pretty small operation I plan on running but I just want to be sure of what I should be doing.

Please give any advice or recommendation: Maybe a better aeroponic system for my situation, IDK.....

Happy growing :)

I have completed 5 runs with the Rainforest 66 and 318 SOG.

I also did not once turn mine off. The first two runs I cleaned the res every week. And the next one every other week. Changing the res did not seem to make a difference. The last run I did not change it out at all.

I used the Rainforest 36 for my first aero grow. I started with 6 plants but soon got rid of three and let the three best go big time. It has worked GREAT. Very easy to maintain for a small but potent setup. My plants grew very very quickly in veg and my buds are LOADED with crystals and have a very sweet/pine smell. It is very crowed but this hasn't been a huge problem. I just add fluresent light to the sides and then place one light actucally in the middle of all the plants with a glass cover to prevent burning. Great system, easy to use, easy to maintain, grows great bud for a small operation.
