Quick question

Sup, new around here obviously but I got something confusing me.

I've had two seperate sites telling me one thing, and the other telling me something else.

So it's wiser to just ask here. Is it optimal to let the plants grow to 3-6 feet before I put them into the flowering stage.

Because this one site is telling me it's more efficient to grow a bunch of small plants and flowering/harvesting them while they are smaller rather then growing a few big ones, and then having them flower.

Totally new at this so help a bro out.

how much head room ya got??
how much lighting?

please bear in mind that most plants double, and some strains triple in size during flowering.... so ya could end up with a plant that is between 9-15 ft - strain dependant of course..which would be a bitch to supply sufficient light to the whole plant.

several small plants would require less supplemental lighting to the sides.

It's a closet, about 3 x 5 and about 7 feet up.

I was going to put about 15 plants in there for starts. But as I read more, its not looking to good.

As for lighting.. i'm on a tight budget so i'm probably going to invest in 5 or 6 fluorescent shop lights.

Well if you're gonna flower in there you wanna try n flower the plants around 2.5ft, to be on the safe side for head room.
fluoros will work but You may wanna try some cfls in there too if ya can,esp for flowering.
Wally world has the Y type fittings so ya can get 2 cfls in real close.
15 plants sounds a lil optomistic, but i guess theres people on here that have made that kinda space work..look into lollipop techniques. might be ideal for ya..

IMO more plants per sq ft is better, you grow more smaller plants, which = less time from veg to flower to harvest with a bunch of phat single cola buds. i just started a thread on my perpetual SOG, for some visual examples...

yup.. thats what i meant...more smaller plants. instead of rying to manage a coupla monsters.
Sog would be perfect for the area he has..

yup..whatever site he's been checking out for info, has some seriously misguided people on it.
dont get me wrong i'd love to veg to 6ft, but i live in a 200 yr old cottage that has 6 ft ceilings... so unles i did some SERIOUS lst i'd be fucked..lol
sure would make some big ass budz tho if the conditions were right.

how do i figure out how many lumens covers how much square feet. I had the formula somehwere in my notes but it's been misplaced evidently..

The plants need between 7-10 thousand lumens for optimal growth right? I've got a 15 square foot area.

Each fluorescent bulb has 60-70 lumens per watt. So if these ones from sears are 40 watts, then each bulb is 2400 lumens.

we dont really use lumens as a guide anymore, watts per square ft is more practicle. basically you want to have no less than 35w per sq ft... i recomend at least 50wpsf.

they are the links in my signature... go check out your local grow shop for the 600w HPS i was telling you about, that should be good enough for what your trying to do, once you can afford it upgrade to the 1000w HPS

totally.....absolutely....and contradiction is the norm. you have to try and wade through what makes sense and appreciate everyone's feedback cuz for them it makes sense or it has worked for them or they want to feel important...give them this .....but it comes down to you and your own circumstances. what your budget is, what your room size is, what your goal and objective is, what your temperament is, are you into DIY, are you plug and play, what constraints do you have, etcetcetcetc......and on an on.....I love to help where I can and seek help where I can get it....good luck and walk on! :peace:
lol...
ya gotta admit tho tahoe that theres a bunch of mis-information out there on the web..about everything not just growing.
