Quick sexing question

My plants have been under 12/12 for a week now and a couple of them have enough preflowers on them that I think I can determine sex.

One question though, do the female pistils appear pretty much when the flowering parts appear? or can a female plant appear like a male and then sprout pistils from the (apparently) male sacs at a later time?

The one I think is a male has preflowers on multiple nodes, all of which have just sacs, no pistils. Is it safe to assume its a male? I can take a photo if need be but it'll be tough to get a good one.

the calyx will appear first, then the pistils will emerge. It will usually be one calyx at a node. Once they start looking like balls, they will pretty much keep looking like balls. If doubt, wait a few more. They can't pollinate anything yet.
