I've been keeping my seeds in the fridge with silicone packets and light resistant jars since I got them back in Feb.
Supposedly if seeds are kept cool then when exposed to warmth they germinate faster due to 'thinking' that they just survived a long hard winter.
Supposedly cool temps slow cellular replication causing the seeds to go 'dormant' during the cold season.
As far as putting them in the freezer I think that's excessive. The problem with the freezer is that most freezers operate at roughly 15 - 25 F which is so cold it will likely cause the cells within the seeds to rupture their lining rendering them unable to replicate for germination (hypothermia). I fear you'll end up with dead seeds if they're kept in the freezer.
My fridge is kept at 34 - 40 F which is still a bit too low but much better than 15 - 25 F.
Seed germination requires 3 things, moisture, air, and warmth. The seeds should let water and air in through their shells which allows for cellular mitosis to begin (cell replication.) Seeds are 'programed' to protect themselves during the winter with their shell. When spring occurs their shell is basically a 'sweater' that is too hot for them to stay in and the cells divide until they crack the shell and sprout out.
George Cervantes wrote about keeping seeds cool in his Medical Marijuana Bible and suggested that storage in the fridge.for 2 weeks before germination. He is seen by many here as a hack, so take that info or leave it.
Keeping them in the freezer IMO is overkill, the fridge would be enough to store them for long periods of time as long as their stored in containers that are air tight and extremely low humidity.
I'll let you know in a few weeks if my seeds germ and if they are healthy, but I think you got information from the George Cervantes book that was 'exploded' beyond what was actually written.
