QWISO De-Waxing and Charcoal

I made a pretty tasty QWISO hash with 99% ISO, it's pretty damn good...

BUT it is very dark in color (brown/green).

I've been reading about de-waxing with Acetone
https://mycotopia.net/forums/holding-tank/63232-bho-butane-honey-oil.html#post832562

And the "next step" advised there to use a activated charcoal to remove the colors.

My Q is could I combine the "de-waxing" and charcoal steps by starting with warm acetone, adding my QWISO, adding some charcoal, cooling it, then filtering it?

Seems like ti would be a lot easier since both the wax and charcoal are "waste" by-products?

^Don't listen to void....he makes terrible quality qwiso, and doesn't follow directions at all. There is no such thing as "purging" qwiso. Once the alcohol evaporates, you don't need to "purge" it like bho.

Try this, shorter rinse time, 10-15 second. Freeze your materials, jars, buds, alcohol. Strain immediately. There is no point in removing the waxes and chlorophyll, I mean there is...but it just takes a lot of time and you need hexane. You better off just perfecting your technique so your final product isn't brown/green.

Well, butane is easier to evaporate from the resin than iso, because butane boils at room temp and iso does not. Both need thorough time and movement to allow a complete evaporation of the solvent.

Isopropyl extracts turn out MUCH better if filtered thru some charcoal and dewaxed, same with BHO. The downside is terpenoids tend to go with the wax, so you can end up with an uber potent yet tasteless amber (aka hammond) extract.
The slower you chill the extract the better the separation.

Dissolve in EtOH, run thru the carbon, then VERY SLOWLY chill/freeze the solution (way cold using dry ice). the waxes will precipitate. this is basic freshman chemistry, but some of us (coughs) have not taken this course yet still try to give chemistry advice....

Wax ON... Wax OFF!

I really don't want to lose the terpenoids (aroma). I don't think there is "much" wax but wondered if I skipped that step and simply ran it through the charcoal? I really only wanted to lose the dark color. It is pretty near full melt as it is.

Also could I use ISO vs. EtOH vs. Acetone for both the charcoal and de-waxing?

Dude you're complicating this way to much. The green shit you have in your oil is chlorophyll. And I doubt it is near full melt if it's brown/green. Why not just make more? I ended up throwing away my first few batches of qwiso.

lol, follow the link in my sig that says isoextractions by oakley

read the guide, use that method... and you wont have chlorophyll in your extract!
I agree, and will use your method, oh wise one. Second promotion in 3 posts - I read it last time.

However, I am asking as I would like to:
a) learn more about filtering and dewaxing anyway
b) see if I can salvage something with what is actually a "second wash" with a lot of ISO rinsing.

The first wash was much better, things I'll do differently next time shorter ISO wash and a warm water bath afterward (I'd let this one evaporate at 65deg F over couple days).

Also the fact that I have any potency confirms my suspicion that quick washes do bring out the "best", leaving the worst, but also leaving some meds, I have significant trim and really need to find a "best" method to prepare it for consumption.

Most of what I read about oil is "small batch" and moderately labor intensive, maybe I'll start working with those dang ice water bags again I bought a damn washing machine for that, tried using 50% veg trim and 30% fan leaves from bloom 20% bud trim, terrible failure in first batch, I was so angry I changed to oils using only shake small buds and bud trim.

I have Hexane 12 oz, and Acetone 8oz
I thought about buying a distiller to recap the Hexane?
What other equipment?
your best bet for purifying already cooked oil is with water

chlorophyll is soluble in water, cannabinoids are not....

if you heat your oil up in a pot of water they should seperate and upon cooling you should be able to collect the resins left over
keep in mind this is science talking and i have not actually attempted a water seperation myself, i know others that have with relatively good success

wasnt trying to be a jerk by shamelessly plugging my guide.... but im trying to clarify you will never get what you are looking for through post processing, you might be able to clean it up a minimal amount, but as ive been cooking with iso for 14 years now im pretty confident in saying that to get the quality your after, youll need to start from the beginning :)

Thanks, I am going to use your 2L bottle quick wash with a new batch (hopefully tonight)....

Are you thinking the oil will float and I can then cool the mixture then take the top layer of oil off the water? will the clorophyll sink?

I would think for getting the impurities out of your budder or hash water is the key, yet to make old school honey I don't see how acetone as the last step with activated carbon powder can be beat for ease, sure you got let it sit in the freezer for a few hours but perfection is worth the wait. I really don't think you need anything extra as far as equipment goes???

It gets no easier when you strive for perfection!

Water will also remove the majority of terpenes.

Everclear 190.. keep everything super cold, dump alcohol in jar with material, dont shake or swirl the first run, cover material with alcohol and strain immediately with a painting strainer into a coffee filter, repeat that up to 3 times, do not grind the bud, break it up into little pieces but don't grind it to powder or you will get alot of chlorophyll and definitely do not shake it
