Rainy Season Harvest Time

I have three plants nearing harvest (one indica, two sativa)- each have been flowering around 70 days. In my area we have been having steady rain the past few days and it is forecast to continue with light rain daily for another week. With the overcast skies it is hard to get a good look at the trichomes to see if they are clear or cloudy- I'm pretty positive none have turned amber yet. I will be doing a "smoke test" today and tomorrow on some buds that are drying to see if I can tell how close the plants are to harvest.

Any other suggestions on how to determine when the plants are ready to harvest? I have a second set of issues regarding my availability to harvest since the mother-in-law is coming to visit in 16 days and I have to either be done with drying at that time or wait until four weeks from today to harvest which might be too late.

Pics would help but there will be a noticeable swell when the bud reaches its peak. You will notice this swell. Sativa could go alot longer dependent upon strain, etc. Alot of indica dom strains at least in my area would run 80ish days flowering if that gives you any marker

Damn! rain on one hand...Mother in law on the other...damn, damn, damn! and your right! 4 weeks from now will be too late...depending where your at. I say harvest now and get the trimming and drying done ASAP! your gonna have to get it out of the house a couple of days before she gets there and use something to mask any lingering smell...better to harvest early than not at all...keep an eye out for bud rot.

The sun is peaking out a bit and I might be able to get some good close-ups of the buds to post this weekend; two of the plants are real scraggly (I messed up the nutes 2 months back and lost a lot of foliage) so I won't post pics of the plants, just the buds. The Indica and one sativa plant buds have been swollen for a couple of weeks now; I smoked the sativa bud yesterday but no buzz, will test the indica after work today. The other sativa has a different bud "texture" than I have seen before and may post about that plant separately.

I normally dry my plants for 4 days in my basement and then cure for 3-4 weeks so I have another 10-11 days before my chop deadline. Once I start the curing process the smell is not an issue. I monitor the plants closely and pull off any dead fan leaves to help prevent bud rot- no issues so far but another 1-2 days of rain are forecast before we get to sunny, dry, and cooler days next week.

The indica was a from a seed that a buddy bought; he forgot the name so I can't look it up to get the expected flowering time. The two sativa's are bag seed so no idea how long their flowering period should run. One sativa and the indica have turned a beautiful shade of purple in the past month which has never happened before.

I did harvest two plants early last month- they were indica looking but give off a definite sativa high. Those plants went 75 days from flower to harvest. Any rough estimates on the flowering time for sativas?

Rain is killing me, another 2-3 inches forecast the next two days then finally (hopefully) sunshine. The plants are really stooped over- I tied up the branches a few weeks back so the aren't breaking from the main stalk they are straining from where I have tied them to my support poles. I will try to tie up the water-swollen buds the best I can but then plants are looking real sad now.

I am chopping the indica in 4 days when I return home from out-of-town; I am planning to chop the sativas next weekend (7-8 days from today) which will give em time to dry and put in my curing bags before the mother-in-law arrives. That would be just at 12 weeks from the start of flowering. I would have chopped the indica this weekend but the missus as Terminix coming tomorrow and wants them to spray inside the basement where I normally dry my crop so I have to wait.

Due to the rain I have not been able to feed my plants for 9 days; I would like to do one more feeding with the sativas prior to harvest but with the rain coming I don't know if it would be worthwhile. I have always been a proponent of feeding right up to harvest but if I nute today with over-saturated soil am I just wasting fertilizer?
