New guinea does have a landrace, the infamous Niugini gold, said to be among the most ootent varieties. You probably got some seeds from this strain.
This whole thread has me very intrigued......But I find some basic problems with the pictured plant and the geographical location, compared to the plants appearance.
First off let me say to the O.P.,, I DO NOT say you didn't get the seeds from NG!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact I believe you!

If we compare the NG to the active grow of the OP. you will see that the basic leaf structure is NOT the same!
I would expect ANY native Cannabis to be a SATIVA, and in fact the N. Gold is listed as the only NATIVE Cannabis from New Guinea IS a sativa.....As reported from this thread else ware.

I would put forth that what you have is NOT a landrace, But a natural cross brought on by seeds that came into the country by who knows and when.....The obvious look of an Indica dominant factor on your plant, surely indicates a cross with an Indica. I further put forth that the new strain appears to be stabilized and "cultivated" to be what it is shown as.
That alone backs up your statement that the tribe is cultivating it for them selves.
Now, while what you have is not a "landrace strain",,,,,you most certainly have something unique! I would guard that from most and keep it close.....at least until you get tired of it.
It's hard to prove any claim of what something is unless you could do DNA cross testing to zero in on the "biological parents".
I have several strains brought back by "friends" in the military from Iraq and from Afghanistan....
The Iraqi strain APPEARS to be a cross and has a Sativa influence, as can be seen from the structure of the plant as it grows and from the flavor. I suspect a Iranian influence and have no idea what the sativa is..... (It was procured from a "hash maker" and the whole story of how it was obtained is QUITE cool!)

As for the Afgan stuff I appear to have a couple of high altitude Indica's and one that grow's out more like a lower altitude Indica. I'm very sure that these have been collected and used for breeding for years......But, still fun to have sample's directly from the "motherland"....
I would SURE love to be able to DNA the Iraqi to figure out what exactly has gone into it to make it what it is! But ,, alas ,, there is no real DNA database of Cannabis that I know of to do that.....
ANYWAY,,,,,I love your thread and am watching it as you post.....If possible at the end could you get it tested and post the breakdown of thc/terp levels for us????
