3x3x7 flower tent. Either 3 or 4, 300w marshydro (bought 4 If I wanted to go 4).
2x2x4 veg tent. 1 300w also cheapish led.(could also put that spare light in here for second half of veg? Start em on 1 and turn second on after first 2 weeks veg, then 3 in flower..I kind of like that 1 2 3 step but idk.)
Going to keep it simple first time and just use ocean forest. Have the foxfarm nutes but unless I see a problem in flower prolly shouldn't need them?
Have filter fan timers etc.
The plan is to do 1 month veg, 3 L pots and then move to 7 L canvas bags for 2 month flower. Will be using mostly new soil at transplants so there should be plenty of nutes in the soil for most of the grow period?
And obviously the plan is to do a rotation. With 2 2 2. So 4 at anytime in flower room.

Anyways, not trying to light the world on fire out the gate but thoughts, comments, etc?? I'm mainly concerned that I prolly need to Lst and or top because of the space in flower room, but how much would that set my veg and therefore flowering time, rotation back?

New member and these forums rock, ty in advance

Welcome to RIU dude.

Topping will hold up veg time some but not huge, lst not so much. You will just have to play around and learn what works best for you and you set up.

Happy growing and good luck :bigjoint:

If growing from seed remember to factor in seedling time as one month veg from germination is pretty short.

Do you think it would hurt anything If I went straight from my dixie cup sized container to the 7L bag? that way I could use the bag to tie down the branches and just move the bag into flower room rather than having to transplant at the switch. Ideally Id like to tie it down and top at like 6 nodes, so it looks like those pictures I see with little potted bushes.

And Yea I have always read it when people say 1 month, 2 month veg etc. that there was an agreed starting point? Like whenever it gets 4 leaves or so and its time to transplant out of seedling cups..I assume that would be more considered day 1 veg?

And Also yea, the reason I am starting out with short growth cycles and small plants (and bag seeds) is so that I can get more chances to learn. My plan is to do 2 at a time every month so for the first 1 or 2 I am probably going to do 1 with some LST and topping, and 1 that I will for the most part just let grow and try to document the differences. *before my durban poison seeds get here in a few weeks!!*

Yesterday has been officially changed to THANKSGIVING IN MAY!in my house because I put my first 2 bag seeds from the birthing chamber into the veg. chamber and turned those lights on for the first time. High as a kite with a big Cheshire cat grin on my stupid face for the last 12 hours lol. And I am in the game!

Anyone feel like adding tips or thoughts, I am not one to ever get offended by advice :)
Thanks again

Hey Proteus,

I like your enthusiasm. I thought of a couple things reading your post.

*I wouldn't go straight from dixie to 7 gallon. You COULD, but it's possible risk/ no reward. The biggest potential problem, especially if you're in straight soil, is if you were to over water them it'll take forever to dry out, stunt the growth and affect the health when they are young and vulnerable. With soil, way better to let the roots really develop, then transplant to reasonable step up. Tiny root ball surrounded by a lot of soil is asking for trouble. If you must, make sure to just water a little around the plant and not saturate all 7 L.

* You said you're using "just ocean forest." Ocean forest is great, but you didn't mention cutting it with any aeration component? On it's own it can bog down a bit, 25% perlite will get it breathing better.

* In soil, you have less fun fucking around with macro and micro nutrients. It's got the foundation, basically boost with phosphorous: at the beginnings, beginning of germination/cloning and beginning of flowering. nitrogen in veg, and potassium mid - late flowering.
* So you don't have the same immediate input or need for nutes. But, with soil, that attention should be shifted to growing the soil. Worry less about NPK and more about building Robo Cop grade soil. With soil, spend your time and money not on NPK, but regiments of adding: 1. Fungi 2. Bacteria. 3. Carbohydrates. 4. Amino acids. 5 Humic acid 6. Enzymes 7. B vitamin 8. yucca.... Grow the soil, mighty roots, mighty plants, mighty buds.

Your ratio of veg: flower space looks good. I don't have leds, but that small footprint is why, 3-4 lights and 900 to 1200 W for 3 X 3 just sounds wrong to me. I'd have 400 w veg, 600 w flower HID, but whatever, you're not lacking for light. But the distribution, you don't want/need 3-4 times the light in flower as in veg., inefficient.

* take some time to shape the plant, don't rush veg asap.

Here are some of my "little potted bushes" 8 distinct strains in that room :) Good luck

Thank you for the replies. Glad to update that the 3 seedlings are alive and well. It has been 10 days since they were put in the dirt and I would say other than my mishap with having them too close to the lights for a while they are plugging right along.
I do have a layer of perlite at the bottom of the cups and i mixed about 25% perlite into the foxfarms. I've been trying to not overwater them. They have had 2 full waterings to drainage (just had second) and in between I dripped water from a sponge around them to keep the top bit of soil moist. One of them looks all sorts of wierd and isnt growing like one would expect, but I knew someone just like that 20 years ago and now..yowza. I've taken some closeup shots and its not being eaten and its still green so meh.

:bigjoint::bigjoint:ALSO my seedsman package came. durban poison, royal gorilla, and some mama mia. Was only about 2 weeks, rather impressed since I am in US. :bigjoint::bigjoint:

See here is where I am with the lights...There is no way those Marshydro 300w are actual 300W right? I am assuming that the 1200W I have in there is like equivalent of 400-500hps? Which I think is a bit of a problem with my little 2x2 veg tent because it only has 1 of them in there...thats like 100-150 actual wattage? (Idk electronics are hard). BUT I do have an old 400w hps/mh light/hood/ballast. You ever get so high years ago that you buy something big like that and never use it and put it in your storage area and then one day your like holy shit! why did I buy these leds. anyways, I have that light and I am thinking about putting it in the flower tent with 2 of the marshydros in front if they will all fit, and then having 3-4 of the marshydro in the flower tent, again if it will fit.

I did have to buy a window ac unit to keep the utility room cool, fortunetly even in the summer it is only running on low and 4 out of 10 setting. The tent with the babies has been staying around 76-79F and 48-52% humidity when the lights are on. Because of the window design I cant take the top leaf out and therefor I am venting my tents back into that utility room with the AC unit bringing in fresh air. I dont particularly like that setup, but that room isnt going to be my final grow area and I dont really want to take a window out and have plywood sitting there.

You lost me completely on the whole carbohydrates and stuff, unless I could just buy that box of 12 foxfarm stuffs and experiment with them? I think I saw something about guano and what not.

.. do yourself a favor, buy the fox part Farm 3 part and use it exactly as directed (only start with 25 - 50% of recommended dose) because you don't want 12 bottles that you don't understand, three are enough!
-good luck!:leaf:
