Raw Opium from Garden poppies?

she's good, a founder of the brewery and a pedigree. it was her birthday last night and I gave her maybe twenty cigar boxes for her little arts and craftie things.

she says they are self propagating and she gets them every year without sowing. I am wondering if I should snag the pods so they don't make seeds and leave a couple ounces of Tasmanian or gigantemum seeds on the ground when I leave.
That's fair. Her garden continues. you get a treat. plus back up seeds if needed. sounds win-win :)

I extract the opium by putting several bulbs in a wok of water with a little citric acid (lemon juice/vinegar...)
heat the wok, when the bulbs change colour they have parted with the needed ingredient.
Add more bulbs and repeat.

When all the bulbs have been used continue heating the wok.
The water will boil away leaving a thicker and thicker syrup.
Continue until the residue scrapes away from the wok as a type of tar/hash/powdery consistency.

Leave overnight - it will absorb water molecules.
Scrape from the wok. It will be like amateur hash.
Some parts dry and powdery, other moist and tar like.

Attempting to smoke it is difficult and wasteful.
Most users ingest by eating.
In fact the idea of 19th Century opium dens full of men smoking is a myth.
Opium was mostly taken orally.

north. You make perfect sense, I should maximize the yield of active ingredient and do what you say. However, I think the lady enjoys the romance and exotic concept of scoring and scraping. Also, I have not smoked real opium in a good long time. The gentle rush of a lung full of opium draws me. Even though I doubt that uncooked o from ornamentals is likely to produce such an effect.

I am also concerned for timing. I have always "harvested" early. Impatience. But I doubt I have ever grown more than 20 pods, enough to give me one or two bb sized pellets that gave me a serious nod.

when ARE they really ripe and how much of a difference does it make if I am a few days late or early?

much more effective and long lasting for pain when taken orally is it not?
in my experience, eating it can result in a high that lasts 8 to 12 hours. Smoking was about half that. But as I said, there is a difference in quality and onset. Of course the taste of opium is exotic. Mysterious and enchanting. I doubt however, that there is enough to bear cooking, which is what brings those flavors to the fore.

My main reason for not scoring the bulbs was because it's so obvious what's happening.
Even the most uninformed neighbour will start to wonder if they see scored opium poppies, bleeding sap, in the next garden.
And growing them INADVERTENTLY is legal - growing them KNOWINGLY is muchos grande prohibido!!!

If I had a plot of land that was discreetly placed then I too would like to try collecting the sap of the poppy in the way that our ancestors have done for 7000 years.

This YOUTUBE link has some unpleasant scenes of intravenous use BUT IT ALSO SHOWS JUST HOW MANY TYPES PLACES GROW POPPIES THAT CAN BE USED FOR OPIUM/MORPHINE/HEROIN

Opium goes through a further process to be refined into good smoking opium.

An emperor of China banned tobacco, a few centuries ago, and the people who were withdrawing from nicotine attempted to smoke other things.
This was the beginning.

I smoked in Northern Thailand.
Lying on my side, the 'guy' motioned to me what I should do.
He placed the pipe towards me, got the ball of opium burning (much harder than you would imagine)
I did as instructed - breath - breath - INHALE and hold

The effect wasn't as knockout powerful as i'd expected
but, after several pipes, I was very floaty and dreamy.

I prefer opiates to cannabinoids.
Opiates do not cause the mild paranoia of ganja
THAT'S WHY THEY ARE POTENTIALLY SO DANGEROUS

I as well prefer opiates, they never overwhelm my senses. Apparently this womans garden is well hidden, but I will be damned if i do not see to it that she is not exposed to legal dangers simply because of her innocent graciousness. My wife and I enjoy watching her with her new man, they gaze into each others eyes and touch over and over again. It would be a sin to complicate her happy life. I will scope it out first, if the heads are all I can get, so be it.
