re-poting in flower: Large containers

As of now about two weeks into flower My plant is getting big. Maybe three feet tall.

It currently is in a 3 gallon bucket.

Maybe I should go up to a 5 gallon bucket.

Should I re-pot this thing? What are the signs that it needs to be re-potted?

When your dealing with a larger plant, how do you re-pot the thing without hurting it.

Thank you.

I, too, would like to know this. I'm at about 2.5 weeks flowering, and my plants are also in 3 gallon buckets. I was considering bumping them up to 5 gallons, but didn't want to stress them and hurt bud production. If it's okay to do, though, I probably will jump them up to a 5 gallon. Their growth has slowed a bit the past few days...I hope they aren't root-bound.

It isn’t good to repot while in flower so if that can be avoided in the future by all means avoid it. Even a 5-gallon pot is not very large, I almost never use anything smaller than 7-gallons.

If you have to repot then you have to repot but then there is another option and that is, if you have enough usable height, you can cut the bottom off of/out of your smaller pot and set it in soil in a larger pot and let the roots grown down into the new soil. If you do that you will want to make a few cuts across the bottom of the root-ball so it will push out new roots because the ends are likely all tangled and jammed up and otherwise might never find their way down.

Root-bound:
Root-bound is where the roots of your plant outgrow the container they are contained in.

The following symptoms may be observed if you allow your plants to become root-bound:

  1. Stunted Growth.
  2. Stretching.
  3. Smaller and slower bud production.
  4. Needs watering too often.
  5. Easy to burn with low % nutrient solution mixtures.
  6. Wilting.

good info... my plants are in plastic buckets... I like the idea of cutting off the bottom and placing it in another larger bucket. I think I can use my dremel tool make a clean and precise cut without any damage.
