thats when i lost my passion for the sport too. but man i miss those days. accident with konstantinov brough an entire state to tears just about. that kind of passion for a team got swept away with all the feuding over money.last playoff game i watched a few years back there were a ton of empty seats. are you kidding me when i was going to games back in the late 90's early 2000's it was ALWAYS standing room onlythey just received an Obama bailout to help the struggling owners. Lets be very clear, I WILL NOT WATCH NASCAR, i have too many teeth and my sister is already married. I said, watch nascar get more ratings, fuck,.. soccer will probably get better ratings then the NHL. I was a die hard wings fan, but it was with Yzer, Federov, the Russian 5, Larinov, Fetisov...Konstantinov...ya know when it was great to see McCarty beat the shit out of lemeiux. Now hockey is like football in the near future, played for pussys. no more fights, no more good hits...its starting to be finesse over grit. Figure Skating at least has Tonya HArding. Holmer retiring makes it official, i am hanging up my winged wheel as a fan...they lost me fighting over money.....again...2005*
i totally get what you're saying and for the most part i agree. i guess coming from a fans perspective who has to bust his ass to scrape by, let alone barely make a living, it's difficult to see that guy who makes, lets say an avg of even 5 times what i make whine about money when i can't even afford to take my family to a game anymore. prices have gotten ridiculous. and i understand completely about wrecking your body and suffering long term because of it, i have "golfer's elbow" in both elbows and no cartilage in either of my knees. both due more or less to my job. maybe i'm just being bitter but thats just how i feel. maybe that'll be my new years resolution, see if i can't get that stick outta my ass and lighten the fuck upI hear ya. 5 million a year is a lot of money. The reality is that most players don't make that kind of coin. Here's a good article on the topic:

Playing a sport that you love is a dream come true for most people. Once you get there though, you start to see what truly goes on. The politics are crazy, and you start to understand that you are just a commodity. A piece of meat that they will use until they no longer have a use for you, then you're swept away. I couldn't tell you how many times I was shot up with a pain killer and shoved back out on the ice. Most players play through injuries with the understanding that it could cost them personally long term, but they do it anyway because it's what's best for the team.
I side with the players in this 100%. The owners are all but guaranteed to make a fortune. The players on the other hand have a very small window to try and capitalize on their talent and opportunity.
