Recently moved to Colorado.

I have just arrived to Colorado and settled into my place and was wondering what steps one would need to take to grow (few plants) and smoke legally/licensed. With the new laws possibly coming into place, will it be possible to be a residential grower? Any links or sources are great if you don't want to type it all out =) Also, another stipulation is that only one grower can grow per household too? Is that correct?

To get legal, you must be a resident, and obtain a doctors reccomendation for it. Dispensaries can help you out with the entire process it will cost you a few hundred for proper fees and filing procedures. Then you can medicate legal style. Then you can have your plants and such, see for yourself...google it. Amendment 20

Yea....Caregivin said it all pretty much. You need to be a Colorado resident with a Dr's rec. for MMJ...then get registered with the state and you are safe to grow your 6plants and possess two useable ounces. As far as I have heared there is no talk of a patient's right to grow 6plants for themselves being taken away. There is some dispute/gray area as to whether or not you AND your caregiver (if you decide to choose one) are allowed 6 plants each....or if it is collectively (meaning you give away your rights to grow if a caregiver is doing it for you). Like I said....this is a grey area and you will get different answers on this subject depending on who you ask. To cover my own ass 100%, I do not have a caregiver and I only grow 3 plants in veg. and 3 plants in flower (staying under 2 dried ounces at all times).....even though my Dr's rec. is written for 25 plants and 9 ounces. I say better safe then sorry..... and if you time/work the 6 plants correctly, you can be sure to never run out of meds. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for all the information! It is greatly appreciated. To be a resident, is there a certain time-period I must have lived here? I just moved and have several bill-envelopes to produce as proof of residence (Comcast etc). Any recommendation for dispensaries or doctors? I see so many ads, I don't want a year membership or commitment to purchase from a dispensary (if that's how I'm assuming it works). I should just look for a good doctor, perhaps one who won't bail to Costa Rica if called in to court?

I would go to the state website, they should have the info on what you need for proof of residency (I used a drivers liscence...but other things might work as well). As far the Dr's rec.........it really depends on your conditions and where you live. If you have a documented medical condition that is listed under Amendment 20 as one of the valid conditions for MMJ....then I would just ask your primary physician (if you have one here). They can only say yes or no and you might be surprised how many Dr's support cannabis. My father (a cancer patient), only had to mention it to his primary Dr. and the rec was signed. If you do not have a normal Dr. yet.....then I would just go with a Dispensary/MMJ Dr. that seems professional and reputable. As far as I know, most will let you sign anybody (or nobody) as the caregiver.....they just try to convince you to sign them by offering you deals/discounts,etc.... As I said before, if you are looking to grow your own medicine, then I recommend playing it safe and NOT having a caregiver, but that is just my opinion...others will tell you otherwise. Good lucK!

With the new laws~ will it still be possible for multiple people to grow in the same house or is it better to just put one person as caregiver to the rest? One person who has 5 others x 5 plants ea (plus 5 for me) would = 30 plants? I know I could never do that much work and am just considering my boundaries. Would this be feasible in a residential zone with the new laws?

On a separate note; I imagine the laws are different in each county, so where can I do what I proposed above? I am considering Boulder, Denver and around Denver. I appreciate the help!

To be quite honest, I am really not the best person to provide this information for you....not that I wouldn't love to help, but I really have not concerned myself with the details of caregivership, multiple grow op's, etc..... due to the fact that I only grow the allowed 6 plants/2 ounces for myself and I am a busy family man that just stays on the down-low with my meds that help me lead a better life I can however tell you that I read today that senate-bill 109 (i think that is the bill...) is supposed to be signed by the governor on July 1st. I still need to confirm this for myself but if this is true....this bill will make getting a Dr's rec. harder and more expensive. Like I said I think you should look into all of this for yourself, but you may want to get your Dr's.rec. in the next month before the bill goes into effect. Good Luck!

No not rude at all as the law keeps doctors from dispensing or being any part of the dispensing process. Also, for all things MMJ related check out Sensible Colorado, ASA, Mile High Norml, Colorado Norml and the state's website for licenceing. You can also Google "Colorado Medical Marijuana"

There's a nuff info there to keep you busy for a while.
