When PH is off nutrients can be locked out and I would think purple stems are possible.
The PH of soil can vary in different locations of a pot of soil. PH tests done with a variety of growers growing different strains and using different methods to test the soil PH would give different results. Testing soil PH needs to be done in two or more locations to get a general idea of what the soil ph is when done properly.

A decent experiment would require a bunch of clones grown in a hydroponic set up.
If someone had a lot of experience with a particular clone and already knows how to feed the plant to keep it green then that grower could decrease the PH of one group, increase the PH of another group and keep the PH in the healthy zone of the 3rd group. Then the experiment would need to be repeated by other growers to get an idea if the results were similar to avoid confirmation bias IMO.

The last gallon of water did have a gram of CaCO3 and MgSO4 in it. Plants usually take 1.25 gallons a day for runoff. I used well water twice and rain water once. I use rainwater with a cup of well per gallon for the normal nute prep. FFHF soil.

Most here regard information from run off to be bad information when trying to determine soil PH or for making adjustments.
One of the symptoms causing purple stems can be the intensity of the light. In the edu article I was reading about it, it is referred to as light irradiance. Aside from genetics that is the one I think most see as a non issue.

I have a variety of lights and the plants get rotated a 1/4 turn a day. The 60ww LED they grow right up to it. Same with the 150w HPS almost.. But the 50ww FS cob they don't reach so much. They are generally over the center of the plant though.

My other veg grow with Granddaddy Purples are pretty purple leaf stemmed already at 4 weeks. They are under a Frankenstein 80ww FS strip light set up for each though.

IMo most common cuprits are too cold temp in rhizo (damp shit medium), “pure” deficiency (phosphorus or magnesium) and genetics. When it comes to light “purpling” you have half top purple when bottom side of petiole remains green….

A fella on this site advised to back off the nitrogen, so I flushed twice and no amendments since .. any advice would be appreciated./ thanks y’all

Belongs to my good friend it a landrace from Trinidad I think he said .I know she looks a little skinny but hopefully she thicken up soon
