Red Stem and Twisting Leaves in Seedling a Problem or Overreaction?

have my HLG 135w V2 RSpec turned all the way down at 4 feet above the sprout.

RH is 60-70%, with temperatures between 68-73. Should I add a clear cup dome or just be patient? I have a humidifier and fan on in the tent, as well as an exhaust system. I watered the soil when planting my root riot in it on day one of sprout but haven’t since. Today is day 3 of sprout

first grow, first sprout and first seedling I can’t help but worry but I’m trying to not tinker too much. This is day 3 of sprout, and on day two I lifted my light from 3 feet to 4 feet

any input is welcome, even if it’s just telling me I’m a worry wart. Idk much about those lights but I have a cheap one I use and have to keep it up quite high or else my seedlings look like that they don’t need much light at that point I usually let mine stretch up just a little bit into it so she tells me she’s comfortable with the light level

Cover it too to keep the humidity up - zip lock bag or use the same size container and turn it upside down and set it on top.
I agree with the lighting comment. I use a CFL bulb for seedlings.



The red stem means that it is a killer sativa :)

I have seen very weird seedlings. Some turn out amazing. Usually the super custom hybrids will result in some misshapen progeny.

These old Agent Orange seeds I am trying to grow are from a six year old pack I got from Subcool. He passed recently so I thought I should honor him in a grow.

The middle one in this shot probably wont make the cut:

The little one here is also taking a while to catch up, and the big one you can see initially had twisted leaves:

You can always add some Epsom salt to your feeding schedule when it gets older. That will probably get rid of the red.

@MICHI-CAN @Mohican thank you! Soil is still moist so I’m leaving it throughout the night, id rather underwater than overwater at this stage of life. I’ll keep on keeping on, if I notice a few days with this thing still under an inch in height then I’ll start the funeral service. I like the red stems if they’re healthy to have, and I’ll check for how these leaves grow

Did you cover it to keep it humid? That is what saved mine. In fact I am still keeping them covered for now.

@Mohican @MICHI-CAN yeah I do! I am using a solo cup with four tiny holes poked near the top to let a little air exchange through. Would you suggest I redo it without the holes, or add more? I didn’t want O2/CO2 issues to come about but couldn’t find a clear answer on whether or not I would need holes for the cup. That looks fine. Only water with a spray bottle for a while. And that will provide plenty of air transfer. Don't let that coir pot sit in standing water. You'll be fine.

@MICHI-CAN yeah I gave it like 25ml of water today, don’t plan on watering again for another 2-3 days. Ultimate goal is to let anything but overwatering kill this beautiful lady. Thanks for the help and reassurance! Always surprised at how kind the community is

We are total "Richards". But we love plants. If you don't know, ask. One of our smart asses will help you. Probably at your expense. But that's part of the fun. High yields and higher spirits. Stay safe.

I would lose the holes and then breathe into the cup before you place it over. I had some light condensation on the inside of the dome.
I had taken the dome off previously for the same reasons you stated - light, air, ...
However, the leaves started to curl up and turn yellow.
I put the dome back on and it recovered nicely :weed:

@Mohican will that not reduce the incoming oxygen too much? I didn’t wanna smother the little girl. If that’s more helpful than hurtful I can swap it for a new cup?

You can see the first set of real leaves at the bottom of the plant right above the cotyledons. Look how bad they got. I was shure I had lost the baby. Put the dome back on and they bounced back like magic :bigjoint:

Those little leaves are not transpiring enough to worry about the volume of air in the cup. Just pop it off every day and give it a nice new breath. Your exhaled CO2 is very beneficial. What are your temps like? Did you move the light up or change to a lower wattage?

I keep the lid until my second set of leaves. And I also blow into my domes. The roots should be hydrating the plant by then. But a misting daily until then. I use plastic bags on single pots with the corners cut off and a half dozen holes made with a paper punch at the bottom level. I don't think holes matter much as long as you are exchanging air daily.
