Hello all, I'm making my own soil mix to backfill into holes for this years season.
Soil mix goes
50% peat
15% perlite
10% vermiculite
25% humus mix(2 part compost 1 part EWC)
To each cubic foot of soil I plan to add
Alfalfa meal-1 cup
Azomite-1/2 cup
Crab meal-1/2 cup
Neem meal-1/2 cup
Fish meal-1 cup
Fish bone meal-1 cup
Kelp meal-1/2 cup
Dolomite lime-1/2 cup
Oyster shell flour-1/2 cup
I've gotten a late start on soil this year and am looking for ways to help speedup the breakdown of my amendments in the process of 'cooking' and have read that soaking all of above amendments(excluding lime, oyster shell flour and azomite) overnight in water before mixing into the soil will help. I also plan on drenching the soil with compost and afalfa tea as I know nitrogen is the primary energy source for decomposing bacteria.
Anyone got any other useful tips for speeding up the breakdown process of amendments in soil? maybe humic acid? Also feel free to chirp in on my soil mix if you see any thing that needs changing or care to share your own recipe. Thanks in advance for any and all help
