Reg seeds or fem seeds for pheno hunt?

I’ve always grown from seed, but now I want to grow from a mother plant. I plan on just popping a shitload of beans and picking the best one for the mother. So my question is this: Does it matter if the seeds are feminized or regular? I’ve heard some people say it doesn’t matter, but some say you should only use regular (unsexed) seeds.

You will never know what you get untill you smoke it. From my experience, appearance of the bud or fast grow rate in veg is not a sign of quality at all…

Generally reg seeds are best for breeding. Male and female seeds are mixed together...crap shoot.
Fem seeds are better for what you are doing...less chance of growing a plant that may be a male in the end...it does happen on occasion still though.

Yes the only way to make a proper decision is to keep a clone off every single seed labeled accordingly. Flower them all and then weed out the “moms” you don’t like.

Fems are better because they are made from two parents that are definitely fire instead of a known good mother and a questionable male.

The amount of variation depends on how homozygous the alleles are (i.e. whether there are unexpressed recessive genes lurking in the parents), it has nothing to do with whether they are fems or not.

The people saying fems can't be used for breeding or cloning or have tend to herm are just spreading myths around.

I know, I’ve got a lot of space to work with so I’m gonna take cuttings from all of them so I can test the final products with some buddies before making a decision on which cut to keep as mom. Unless there’s a more efficient way I haven’t thought of?

this is the exact answer I was looking for. Thank you. I’m about to order some seeds, how many should I get? They’re a bit pricey.

I can't tell you how many to get but there are some cheap fems available on gloseedbank.com with their "sttddeals" schtick (check the GLO thread and sign up for the email). Most of the CSI:H gear is $50 a pack there, theres some good sounding gear from Stray Fox for $35 a pack, some of the Savage Genetics gear is $70 with a full sized freebie so it's basically $35 a pack. Founding Fathers $50, Clearwater is like $65-$75 for most. 5 packs of Lit gear for $160 but some freebies might not be fems, the lit farms part is the most confusing part of the email.

radogear.com has Cannarado for $80 each, cannaventureseeds.com has a bunch of gear for $75 right now (LVTK), humboldtcsi.com is going to have a 15-25% sale any day now, check in IG - when buying direct from breeders they usually hook up on freebies

You don't have to spend $25 a pop for InHouse or whatever.

oh yeah, jbcseeds.com has a few Useful chocolate diesel crosses for $60 and they do I think 10 or 15% off for RIU, try RIU15 or RIU10 for the coupon codes (search for these terms here to find out). Useful and JBC are both cool cats that sponsor RIU.

dcseedexchange.com has a better selection of Useful and also a couple from 3-Thirteen for $60, another RIU homeboy.

Female seeds allow you to see more expressions with fewer seeds. I'm not sure one is scientifically better than the other, and I don't think anyone really knows for sure. Essentially, YOU decide what makes a good mom and whether it came from a pack of reg or fem, won't matter.

"regs" should be short for "regression towards the mean" because that is what happens every time someone chucks a great cut with a stem rubbed male
Maybe for some breeders but ones like mentioned above humbolt seed co. grow out f4 f5 very stable and consistent u won’t get that in fems

lol, I Plan on upgrading to a 4x8 from a 4x4. I have an HLG scorpion Rspec, so I’ve been looking at other lights that will cover the other 16 sq/ft. Just decided on an RIU

HSC's fems aren't as stable and consistent as the regs of the same filal generation? I would expect their female seeds to be even better because the breeder can directly observe the female flower traits of both parents. There is no reason at all why fems can't be bred to be at least as stable and consistent as regs and of course selfing is an extremely powerful stabilizing technique that is not available to reg breeders. Maybe you know something I don't, please enlighten us.
