Fems are cool if your just plan on flowering and smoking, but not so good for breeding. The clone issue I haven't encountered from a mothered fem. I've had a power kush fem for three+ years and stayed the same throughout.
As for regular seeds, it is easy to get more females than males. There are a few tricks.
14/10 for the first two weeks after seed pops up,
cooler daytime temps more in the 66-68 degree range,
higher nitrogen in the soil than P and K.
I might be mistaken, it's been a while since I've cracked a bean but RIU has plenty on this topic.
Using these technics I usually will get better than 50% female to male ratio. Typically though, always more females than males.
