Regulating humidity at night

Hey everyone,

So i'm on my first grow here and still trying to find balance in my environment.. I am currently in veg late week 3, so i'm trying to keep RH between 55-65. There is an adjustment on the humidifier so I can maintain it pretty easy. The problem is at night. When the lights go off, the temperature drops a little and the humidity jumps from 60 to around 70-72. I believe this to be a little high and am worried that when I go to flower I will have high humidity at night as well.

I have thought about possibly putting the humdifier on the same timer as the lights but if it goes completely off then it will drop to 30-35.... Should I instead drop it to 50 during the day so its 60 at night?

The timers are set for 11pm and 5am, would be a major inconvenience to have to get up and change the humidifier every time the lights go off.

Just wondering what works for you guys or any suggestions

dump the humidifier, my plants have never seen one in their grow rooms, I keep rh below 50% and rock the weed every time.
get a dehumidifier now, open wallet, pay electric bill

Really? I have always seen that humidity control is a major factor in a healthy plant... Maybe its just about perfect where you live? The first few days before I got the humidifier they looked pretty upset with me, they definitely perked up after i introduced it

Humidity is important I just upped the size of my humidifier on my geo thermal because it was able to keep up.

yeah, I read that here too, then I watch year after year as my flowering room dips to 35-40% for a few months with no changes in results then the rest of the year its controlled to stay under 50% with no seasonal changes. my veg space stays under 50% naturally year round, sometimes as low as 35 even, never seen an issue. I monitor the readings daily with high/low reports. I dont know how plants will do outside of those parameters. best wishes

Guys I really didn't start this thread to argue the effects of humidity...

You can (and I do) run your grow room a bit on the dry side, say 45% to 55% IF you keep your temps on the lower side. Say 72 to 74 f. To answer your original question, I'd keep my day time rh a bit lower and make sure that you still have adequate air exchange during lights off. I set my humidifier to 60% which usually keeps it at 55% lights on and 60% lights off.

humidifier add humidity to the air
dehumidifiers remove humidity from the air

you said you have high humidity at night, so......logically a dehumidifier is needed amirite? wtf am I missing here?

With the humidifier on and at the same setting, the humidity stays at 60% during the day and 70-72 at night.

Without the humidifier, it goes down to around 25-35% day and night, though it would only be for 6 hours a day

I do not need a dehumidifier to reach 25-35% RH, this happens when I turn off the humidifier. Maybe some slight miscommunication here. I could tie the humidifier into the timer with the lights so it goes down to 25-35% at night? or turn it down a little during the day so it doesnt get so high at night?

25-35% just seems a little low to me early on in veg

gotcha, 25/35 is low in veg. Sounds like you need humidistat, adds humidity when needed, and stops adding when its not.
a timer would do it too with a pita factor

I have a cheap humidifier with an adjustment yet its not a humidistat, like it blows humidity full time regardless of RH% in the room, just at a different adjustable rate. another 50 bucks would get me one that shut off when desired rh is attained. not needed for my dry room application though.

Buy a humidity controller and let the tool do the work for you. It'll be one less thing to worry about.
There are a couple for under $50 on Amazon. I bought a cheesy Willhi brand and love the thing. I don't know how long it'll last, but this is my first run giving a shit about rh so time will tell.

I have almost the exact same RH swings in my veg room and it drives me nuts lol

Remember that as the girls get larger, transpiration rates will increase, and you may find that you DO need a dehumidifier in the end of flower.

But I went and picked up a second humidifier, dialed them both 'down' a bit (mine are just a low to high dial, not a digital setting like yours may be?). Both are set to blow into my fans.

The fans are always on. One humidifier needs to go off at night- so I just put it on a timer with one of the lights :)

The second one plus normal nighttime transpiration has kept me in my target range pretty consistently :)
