My buddy made it work tho..
Chinese crap was rated for half the vaccume pressure needed.guess it wasn't too crap tho....there was a lot of heating,and cooling,and praying and hoping...But he ended up w 2 litres of the root beer fun!!
Now I gotta get to a photo developer....hmmm.

You could make your own like rory said, although unless you don't know your organic chemistry it could be a bit confusing and unsafe.
Safrole can be made from phenol in approximately 3 steps. Phenol is really cheap and legal aswell.
If you have enough cash(kind of costly) and are lazy you can buy Sesamol (3,4-Methylenedioxyphenol). Which is unregulated too.
It can be turned into safrole in 1 complicated reaction, or in 2 simple ones and you don't have to bother with methylenation which is not a reaction for a beginner organic chemist to carry out.

I would think so...reactions occurring at different temps,pressures with diff chems..I'm sure pure ephedrine makes better gack than some extracted from pseudophed ...

And starting out with ready made manufactured precursors beats throwing them together yourself...I'm sure the stuff you get at the photo lab is much more conducive to a better product than a lesser quality substitute...

Yes and no. In theory if everything should get converted to the target compound or removed during clean up. Many clandestine chemists are more concerned with yield than purity so you get some other shit along for the ride. How these impurities affect the experience is unknown. I feel like cleaner drugs give a cleaner experience but that could well be entirely in my head.

Sounds correct. From there if I'm not mistaken you'd have to turn it into 4-allylcatechol or something of the sorts and then proceed with a few more steps after this.

That'd be the one. Use an excess of catechol with allyl bromide to get the mono ether, purify, thermal rearrange then make the MD bridge. It's much easier to just start with safrole but you can make it from stupid simple building blocks
